Thats going to be different from phone to phone and service provider to service provider. You will need to check out your manual if you still have it or look at an online manual if you lost it. My suggestion would be to mail it to yourself if at all possible.

Problem is, he has Verizon with VCast. To find a cable is no problem, but when I went to buy a data kit for my RAZR V3 that had VCast, Verizon told me they do not sell data kits for phone that have VCast because they were worried about pirating the videos they push. I don't know if this still stands true, but that's what I had to deal wtih. I do have a pirated/hacked driver kit if it is straight USB for it that will make it connect succcesfully to your computer. At that time I needed DataPilot to sync my phone. I am guessing you want a more simple solution, so why don't you look at the manual or ask your verizon dealer?
Why dont you email the pic to yourself??? I have done it a few times!
If you can take a pic with your phone then you should also have the ability to email it to someone. RIGHT? So why not email the pic to yourself. Then go to your email right click the pic and save it to your pc. If you want to use it as a avatar and its to big then just resize the pic and use it. Hope this works.
