Vericose veins in arms or shoulders

I noticed Rocky did in the new Movie, does that count for anything?

Yes, I noticed that also!!

If anyone does, we need to discuss it and what may be causing it. It could be a sign of a seroius problem. If not, no worries.

I don't have vericose veins but my arms are loaded with spider veins.. kind of nasty looking.

My mother in law has them on her legs bad. Eeeeewwww! She says they hurt like hell. My wife started getting them and went to the doc and had them zapped. They are gone now and that was 4-5 years ago. I don't know allot about them but what I have heard is if they are left unattended they will get worse and ache all the time.

Jig

Phil, if you want more info about the treatment the wife had let me know and I'll quiz her. It wasn't really surgery, it was elect shocks. I think.

I remember Dillet's arm and shoulder were wierd looking with a vein that folded back on itself a lot, is that what you mean? What does cause this?

Well, it can be TOS

If you plan on having them removed please check for TOS first. If not, you could develop DVT ( Blood clot) and die. There can be a number of reasons you develop these veins, but you may need an ultrasound or MRI or even a venagram to see if you have TOS.

I've seen a few bodybuilders who get these veins in the shoulders and chest when on cycle. What causes this? Increased bp?

I figured it was genetics, I have always thought the shape and location of veins is pre-determined?

I have had them lightly on my calves and back since I was young. The leaner i get the more they show. So I dont think it is a problem but an eye sore. Unless yall know something I dont

Is that what's up with the veins in Batista's(WWE) arms? I've always wondered what the deal was with those veins. This is actually the first I've heard of vericose veins, so its new to me.

nice I work in RADIOLOGY :) I see DVTs all the time...blood clots can break free and lead to PEs and death...so be very carful and if you sit a lot at work, get up ad move around every 30 to 45 minutes.

usually DVTs cause pain and swelling...so that is a huge sign...even though there was no trauma to the area...numbness in the upper and lower EXT is a big sign too.

My wife is getting hers treated in her legs. She got some from pregnancy. They inject some kind of solution into them (i don't know what kind), she says they use 3ml syringes.

Now that Phil has mentioned this I noticed alot of people have them at the gym I work at. These 2 older ladies have them all over the back of their knees. Do we know what causes them? Could it be how we eat? High BP all the time? HDL? LDL?

I wondered what those were, my great uncle who was a truck driver for a long time has them around his ankles. Not sure if he still does

Phil I got one if my right shoulder that I thought just developed from feeding my enhanced shoulder and my ego, I was stoked when I got this vein but now I'm worried. Phil, should I be concerned???

WELL

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT YOU HAVE STRICTURE OF YOUR SUBCLAVIAN VEIN. MAKE AN APT. WIT A VEIN SPECIALIST FOR AN UNTRASOUND. DVT CAN KILL YOU IN SECONDS.

Why do varicose and spider veins develop? Here are several reasons:

Both men and women can develop them but they're more common in women, the hormones estrogen and progesterone may play a role, since puberty, contraceptive pills, and hormone replacement therapy after menopause seem to encourage their development.

Another good site..... **broken link removed**

Another common cause: pregnancy. This may be due partly to hormones, partly to maternal weight gain. In particular, the weight of the abdomen might partially restrict blood return from the legs and contribute to the formation of varicose veins.

In general, being overweight places greater strain on leg veins. A complicating factor is that overweight people are more likely to develop other medical conditions that can impair healthy blood flow, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.

If you stand for long periods, this increases your risk of varicose and spider veins. It's simply that much harder for your veins to fight gravity and do their job.

High-heeled shoes stress leg veins further by forcing your calf muscles to stay contracted for long periods of time.

A tendency to get varicose and spider veins seems to run in families. If your parents and siblings develop them, you could, too.

Sometimes an injury can damage veins and set the stage for later problems.

Facial spider veins, especially visible in fair complexions, may be related to sun exposure in some people. Heavy alcohol drinkers and people who eat a lot of spicy or hot foods also seem more likely to develop spider veins on the face. On the other hand, many people with facial spider veins develop them even if they avoid all risk factors.
