Why am I getting sore not maxing out?

Ok here is my question. I'll take bench press as one example. I push almost all my sets to failure. I'm lifting some serious weight(for me). I normally do 3 sets of 10 reps. Going to failure on the last 2. Lately even though I been pushing myself, my chest has not been sore.

So....On a day that I was supposed to work my chest, I instead did 75 push ups until I couldn't do another one...just 1 set of 75. The next day I am sore a hell. Anyone know why?
 
Because you gave your pecs a completely new type of stimulus.

Changing up your training is good. That's what got you sore
 
Adaptation
 
Don't get too caught up in lifting heavy weight to the point where you're just moving the weight and no longer stimulating the muscle. Not to say strength gains aren't important, but in bodybuilding it's far more important to be stimulating the muscle correctly. Feel a good stretch and contraction on every rep.

This also. My traps by far my best body part. They have never been sore, not even first time I ever trained them. Being sore is not an Indicator of muscle growth. Getting consistently stronger or increasing measurements with out adding bf is
