Any of you eat this?

My brother hunts these guys year round this could be a EASY source of protein.

I love the taste, just wondering what would be said for the source of protein it is.

If I had easy easy cheap access to wild boar I would eat alot more of it. Most of it will need to be cooked slow and low to make it tender.

I don't have them local but have hunted them before, bow, pistol, shotgun.
One thing I learned, sows taste better than boar, bigger is not better.
Now when I have them butchered I have them do the pork chops, everything else is ground up. I love the taste, it is very lean.

Very good source of lean protein. My father and and I hunt them year round. I would def not kill any boars over 150-200. After they mature the meat retains a "muskey" taste due to their hormones. They are a blast to hunt with dogs!

we hunt them year round , we live catch with dogs , the boars are "cut" and pen raised for a couple weeks before butcher , it helps ALOT with the taste of the meat.

I think that its a great source of protein , though im not sure what the fat % would be , even the most lean pigs will probably still be in the 10% fat range , so im not sure it would be a good meat to use for a contest prep but other than that.

No but I love some rocky mountain oysters....
for those that dont know what those are...... Cow balls:D

What does it wild boar taste like?? Just the same as normal pig, pork?
Or is it more of a musky, gamie flavor?

Has more of a gamey taste. I am making a trip back to see the family this coming weekend, so we are turkey hunting then hog hunting. So maybe I can have some meat in the freezer.

keep us posted on that STI ... THANKS

Hog tenderloin back strap and ribs are great. The rest we just mix in with a brisket to make sausage.

Wild Boar is so damm tasty and good.

Cant find retaurants here that carry it.

Sounds good as hell. I wish we had them where I live:(

Where do you live , their are very very few places that hogs have not moved into and become a pest , the pigs we have here in the USA are actualy feral hogs , they were once domestic pigs brought over by settlers/explores in the 1400's , this is the reason most places don't have a season on them and they breed like roaches

A couple of years back, Mens Health ran an article on wild boar. Apparently, they're one of the leanest animals around. Something like 2-3% bodyfat.

I've eaten wild boar a couple of times at nicer restaurants, and it was always alittle dry and gamey, even thought it tastes decent. I think the lack of bodyfat affects the dryness and taste quite a bit.

i live in pittsburgh, ive heard of buddies hunting them in WV, i may have to try them
frk
