Wish we saw more of this…

It's a question of why did the open get so loose with some of the requirements that resulted in the need to create other divisions. A bigger complaint most people have is the 101 divisions and how easy it is to get a pro card. 30 years ago you had to be a specimen to get a card. It resulted in tough competitions that made shows way more exciting. Some of the current guys wouldn't even turn pro.

1991 NPC Nationals Top 10

1st Kevin Levrone

2nd Flex Wheeler

3rd Paul Demayo

4th Ronnie Coleman <-----

5th Matt Mendenhall

6th Bob Cicherillo

7th Chris Cormier

8th Edgar Fletcher

9th Dean Caputo

10th John Sayegh

There would be a lot of "Did Not Place" attached to today's guys if they tried to get a card in a lineup like that.

More divisions = more opportunities for people to compete. It also attracts a more diverse audience, not just hardcore bodybuilding fans. More competitors/competitions and a broader audience = more money for everyone, like the entire industry, not just the NPC/IFBB. You get it yet?

I always got it. Like everything else, it's about money. Everything you said is true, but it dilutes it. You're the one that needed the explanation why some of us think it sucks and seeing shows full of implants and oil on guys that shouldn't even be competing is a joke. I want to watch Michael Jordan play basketball, not the kid that delivers your paper.

When it comes to popularity - in the late '80s and '90s, pro shows were shown live on prime time TV channels.

When it comes to work ethic - look at the stage faces of the guys from those days and the guys now.

Remember when lads would turn up with clothes hanging off them they were that baggy and a face like a skull. Now plenty of people turn up full to bursting with hamster cheeks
