WWE WrestleMania 21
by Ed Ouble, **broken link removed**

**broken link removed**to discuss the results.

Sunday, April 3, 2005 - Vince McMahon brings us the Super Bowl of wrestling world, Wrestlemania 21. In a sold out arena at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, with countless other saps like my self watching at home.

Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero

**broken link removed**

Kicked off the night in what should have been a classic match ..... After watching it I realized why it was the event opener, the techniques were very sloppy and not what we have come to expect from these two wrestler, especially Rey Mysterio. After an exchange of blows, submission holds, frog splashes your winner of the match is Rey Mysterio, by way of his signature hunacanrana followed by a three count.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

Money-In-The-Bank Ladder Match

**broken link removed**

A six way match between Kane, Christian, Edge, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, and Shelton Benjamin. The goal is to get ladder up in the middle of the ring and get the briefcase full of money down. Not only does the winner get the funny money inside the case, he also gets a shot at the WWE Heavyweight Title at any point for the next 12 months.

Another boring match in my opinion, even though there was action all over the place. I was routing for Chris Benoit, who busted open those twenty or so stitches above his eye when he missed head butting Kane of the top of the ladder. After attempt Benoit again tries to climb the ladder with his bloody face, but his advance up the ladder was stopped by Edge. Edge simply pushed Benoit and his ladder over and then climbed up to win the match.

Winner: Edge

During an intermission of sorts, we everyone's favorite Eugene come out to the ring talking about what his favorite Wrestlemania moments are. Incase you care, his favorite moment was when King Kong Bundy was fighting off an army of midgets in Wrestlemania 3. While Mr. Eugene is doing his best impression of Daniel (from the “Other Sister” starring Juliette Lewis) out comes Mohammed Hassan to interrupt him. Hassan and his manager then took out their frustration on Eugene, to set up one of the highlights of the night.

**broken link removed**

Coming to Eugene’s rescue is Mr. WWE himself, Hulk Hogan dressed in his classic yellow and red gear. With “I am a real American” blasting in the background Hogan comes down and kicks some ass. I just love how the WWE is so politically correct, where else can you combine so many stereotypes into a ten minute skit. During Hogan's walk around the ring they showed a few shots of his daughter who was sitting ringside, what a piece of ass.

Undertaker vs. Randy Orton

In this match we have Randy Orton, the self proclaimed legend killer taking on an undefeated Wresltemania legend, The Undertaker. Undertaker comes out with his torch carrying crew, while he glides on a slide, which was poorly hidden by the smoke. A good match incorporating explosive moves, as well as some outside interference from newly inducted WWE Hall of Famer, Cowboy Bob Orton. Bob Orton came out with his cast. Unfortunately his attempt wasn't enough. Undertaker wins the match wit a tombstone, followed by a pin.

Winner: Undetaker

Women's Championship - Champion Trish Stratus vs. Christy Hemme

Challenger and Playboy’s April 2005 cover girl Christy comes out with Lita. Christy comes out wearing a lil skimpy red outfit skipping along to the ring like she was still a dancer on The Man Show. Highlight of the match was Christy’s boobs almost falling out, after Trish speared her. Other than this the match sucked, Christy is an attractive girl but is far from an experienced wrestler. Trish wins the match with her signature kick and rolls over for the three count.

Winner: And Still Women's Champion Trish Stratus

Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels

**broken link removed**

Two mat technicians with skill, guts and a personality. Without a doubt the best match of the night. with an exchange of ankle locks, sweet chin music and suplexes. You can’t get any better than when the announcer table forgets to break as planned. Angle won the match by an ankle lock submission , HBK tried to crawl to the ropes but taps out before he could get there. The only thing missing here was some blood dripping off of Michaels face.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Piper's Pit with Stone Cold Steve Austin

**broken link removed**

The best one liner of the night Piper telling Austin, that he was irritating Vince McMahon while the red on his neck was just a diaper rash. The two exchange words and a shit load of what's from the crowd. The skit was complete with Carlito coming down to the ring with his apple. The two beat his ass, had a few beers and then Austin gave Piper the stunner when he least expected it.

Sumo Match - Akebono vs. Big Show

**broken link removed**

Sumo Legend Akebono takes on The Big Show in the first sumo match in Wrestlemania history. Both wore traditional sumo diapers with their junk and asses falling all over the place. I can tell you after this match I wish I wasn’t so critical of the Trish vs. Christy match. Akebono won the match by tossing Big Show out of the rope less ring.

Winner: Akebono

WWE Championship - Champion John Bradshaw Layfield vs. John Cena

**broken link removed**

One word, BLAH! A lackluster match, with JBL money falling all over the place and a police escort to the ring. A very short match with Bradshaw dominating throughout with very lil chemistry. Cena hit the FU and got the pin.

Winner: And New WWE Champion John Cena

They brought out the hall of fame inductees for a curtain call tribute. Nikali Volkof, Cowboy Bob Orton, Paul “Mr. Wonderful” Orndorff., The Iron Skeik, Jimmy “The Mouth of the South” Hart, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Hulk Hogan all make their way out to the stage escorted by WWE Divas in some classy looking gowns.

World Heavyweight Championship - Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Dave Batista

**broken link removed**

Champion Triple H, comes out to his theme music, which was live performance by the band Motorhead. Triple H looked impressive, looks like he slimmed down in the gut a bit. Batista comes down and the fans are ready for a big match. And they got just that alot of build up with a very predictable title change coming.

Match was complete with Triple H gushing blood all over the place via the ring steps, outside interference by Ric Flair, low blows and pedigrees . Even the belt got in on the action by helping Tripple H layout Batista. Fight ended with Batista reversing a pedigree into a modified head/back drop and then landing a Batista bomb, followed by a pin.

Winner: And New World Heavyweight Champion Dave Batista

Overall the event was good but lacked some drama and gimmicks. WWE needs to bring back a star name or a Hell in the Cell match. One of the things I actually did enjoy was the trailers they played to go with the Hollywood theme. Overall damage was $50.00 for the PPV and $20.00 for the pizza and soda. Next PPV is Backlash on Sunday, May 1, 2005 in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Yeah, I watched it. Overall it wasn't that great. I was disappointed in the sumo match. I was hoping they would actually let it be REAL, but it was obviously faked. They kept stopping and looking at each other and Akebono was definitely holding back. If it was real, he would have taken out the Big Show in a second or two. Batista and Triple H was a good match though. I couldn't believe how boring the John Cena and JBL match was.

I love watching Batista....I'd like to see Batista and Lesner go at it

Hey great job Edouble!

WWE does need a spark, but sometimes they get lazy especially when the are pretty much a monolopy (remember the old WWF on TV would only show 'star vs fall guy' non-competetive matches, until WCW and NWO started blowing them away in competition). You would like to see a new guy step up, or maybe a legend comeback. They dont have anyone the with mic skills the calliber of Stone Cold, Rock, Hogan, Piper. Flair is non competetive lately. IMO HBK, Angle, Undertaker and HHH dont quite cut the superstar mold, but close. They need a guy with a great gimic and/or great mic skills. Cena can be that guy maybe-2wks before on smackdown his skit with JBL was gold; but I think he need to drop the yo-boy act.
