WWE wrestlers involved in investigation

I found this over at MM and thought it was interesting... I just thought it was interesting, especially considering the guys they named... Definitely not any of the BIG guys on the WWE roster... I'm surprised that Spike Dudley's or Trevor Murdock's names were not dropped... :D

While continuing their investigation into the alleged steroid distribution network in Florida that has implicated numerous professional athletes, Sports Illustrated's official website posted a story today where they reported that they have documents that show a number of WWE wrestlers' names being linked to the investigation. In addition to TNA star Kurt Angle, Sports Illustrated has linked WWE stars Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Adam "Edge" Copeland, Gregory Helms (though they refer to him as Shane Helms & 'The Hurricane' in the article), and the deceased Eddie Guerrero to steroids and HGH. In total, there were eleven professional wrestlers listed in the documents they saw, but only six of them have been outed thus far.

They are now reporting the following:

"According to the official documents we reviewed, (Arizona Dr. David) Wilbirt was billed for HCG and the steroid stanozolol that were sent to WWE star Eddie Guerrero in early 2005. (Guerrero died on Nov. 13, 2005, in a Minneapolis hotel room due to what a coroner later ruled as heart disease, complicated by an enlarged heart resulting from a history of anabolic steroid use.) Wilbirt also allegedly issued prescriptions for the steroids nandrolone and stanozolol to Oscar Gutierrez, whose stage name is Rey Mysterio. (Through the WWE, Gutierrez declined comment.)"

They also reported the following:

"In total, there were 11 professional wrestlers listed in the documents that we saw. Some of these wrestlers are working as independents; some are out of the business entirely; others are first-tier stars. Consider Randy Orton, who allegedly received eight prescriptions for six different drugs -- stanozolol, nandrolone, anastrozole, Clomiphene citrate, oxandrolone and testosterone -- between March 2004 and August 2004. (Through the WWE, Orton declined comment.) Interestingly, according to the documents, Orton's prescriptions came from the same two doctors whose names appeared on the prescriptions in major league outfielder Gary Matthews Jr.'s file."

They later wrote:

"According to the documents two prominent wrestlers, Adam Copeland, a.k.a. Edge, and Shane Helms, a.k.a. The Hurricane, received HGH. (Through the WWE, Copeland and Helms didn't respond to a request for comment.) But virtually all the others allegedly received a wide variety of anabolic steroids. In each case these were supplied by Applied, the Mobile, Ala., compounding pharmacy that was raided last fall."

When SI.com asked their reporters if WWE has a drug policy, the reporters, Luis Fernando Llosa and L. Jon Wertheim said, "Llosa/Wertheim: Gary Davis, a WWE spokesman, pointed us to a Talent Wellness Program instituted in February 2006. As to whether anabolic steroids and HGH are banned, Davis sent us an email quoting the policy: 'The WWE policy prohibits the use of performance-enhancing drugs, as well as other prescription drugs which can be abused, if taken for other than a legitimate medical purpose pursuant to a valid prescription from a licensed and treating physician. For purposes of WWE's policy, prescriptions obtained over the Internet and/or from suppliers of prescription drugs from the Internet are not considered to have been given for a legitimate medical purpose.' Citing privacy issues, Davis declined to say whether WWE wrestlers have tested positive for banned substances since the policy was implemented."

I have a bad feeling a lot more "famous" people are going to be named in this bullshit investigation.

Eddie Guerrero, RIP

one of the greatest wrestlers of all time

of course it was the steroids that killed him, and not his extended battle with recreational drugs...

I do believe the media will definately target steroids, but they CAN kill you....right? I mean using steroids can cause very serious health problems, or am I wrong?

It's a good thing you didn't BBA... Glad to hear you steered away from this guy... This whole investigation thing is getting WAY out of hand if you ask me... Think if they put this much time and concerted effort from the feds and media to crack down on street drugs and the one's pushing this crap to little kids... But no they use all of their money and resources to out a bunch of athletes so that they can sell newspapers, magazines etc and the feds can grand stand...

Joe: The jury is still out on that one... If used wisely and one makes a conscious effort to get bloodwork then they should be fine... Plus, it all has to do with the individual and their body... If one has a family history of cancer, heart disease etc, then one's likelyhood of getting such diseases are highly increased no matter what they do... However, the media, when bringing forth their claims that steroids were to blame in so and so's death they neglect to inform you that there were other mitigating factors that led to their early demise... Take Eddie for instance, he did use steroids... However, that was just a drop in the bucket to the amount of alcohol, cocaine, and prescription pain meds that he was putting into his body everyday... But they knowingly leave all of that out of their stories... That is what upsets me... Just like in Lyle Alzado's case... I remember seeing this guy get on tv and swear that he was dying of brain cancer that was spawned by his steroid use... However, it was WELL documented that Lyle was a homosexual and was even part owner of a gay club in Oakland... But it was reported that due to the Raider (bad boy) image that Al Davis paid big money to keep this quiet... And it was also alleged that it was in fact AIDS that Lyle suffered from and not cancer... But the media took the story and ran with it anyway... It just pisses me off that our media doesn't give us the WHOLE story....
