Jessie came to me at the very end of last year, weighing 105 pounds at 5 foot 7.
He had experienced some health problems, and also had some eating disorder issues. I remember him telling me that “it hurt to sit down, because the bones in my butt stick out”.

Fast forward 6 months and now he’s just over 160 pounds, and obviously a hell of a lot healthier, stronger, and thicker. We’re currently getting him ready for his first bodybuilding competition.

This kid is one tough son-of-a-bitch and I’m very proud of what he’s done.

Thanks for the props guys. His self esteem and overall mood have improved tremendously in the last 6 months.
I get more satisfaction out of helping people in that regard, than the actual physical changes they see.

Were/have you been able to get into the issues behind his eating disorder? I realize this may be out of your area as it is somewhat a counseling issue. In medicine sometimes we treat the problem, but not the cause and it only ends up rearing itself later.

In issues like this, the person may "overcome" their problem, but if they don't deal with the underlying issues, they then develop some other type of addictive behavior, i.e., many people who get their stomach's reduced end up becoming addicted to cigarettes, or gambling, or alcoholics, etc. It's very interesting. There is usually some type of "control" issues behind this.

Just curious. I don't want to over-analyze, but he has made great progress and would hate to see it affected by something else later on.

Yes, more often than not I think addictive personalities / behaviors that are "overcome" are really just channeled into new behaviors.

We still like our nucleus accumbens to be tickled, so we find new ways to do that... hopefully healthier ways, and hopefully with a better balance than before.

I think Jessie just reached the point in his life where he said "enough is enough" and he needed to make a change.
That's really the only time anyone ever does anything... when they get motivated enough to do it. It all comes down to motivation.
