Can someone explain to me how the figure and ms olympia winners each got 28k and the 202 class winner only got 10k? I understand its a new class but I think the men draw in more fans and sponsorship any day over the women, shouldnt the prize money be comparable? Taking nothing away from the women I am glad to see the prize money for the olympia raising across the board but I just felt 10k was a little ridiculous. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

tell me why that the #1 show in the world for bodybuilding has a piss poor prize money to the winners???

The supplement industry is a billion dollar industry...why not pay the top athletes what they deserve?

Every sport in the world takes care of their top athletes.

I think A-ROD makes 125,000 a GAME!!!!! Yeah millions watch baseball yada yada, but he is at the top of his sport.

I wonder how many paid for the pay-per-view, or watched the Mr. O on webcast??

the sponsors should kick in more prize money

Agreed! I do not think they're getting paid nearly enough especially for being the best and face of their sport.

Bump this, pro-bodybuilders sacrifice everything any other top athlete does in the world today and they still get payed the bottom end wages, seems like everyone involved in bodybuilding besides the bodybuilders are making the cash and then we wonder why we have "gay 4 pay"

always was and will be

This is truly sad, as these top ranked pro's train and diet pretty much the whole year for the big show and they get peanuts. Even top notched wrestlers make more money. But then in bodybuilding everything is dependant on the W--d-- s and the powers to be.

A better question to ask is how much does the organizer of the "O" make when it is all said and done?

I agree that the prize money should be more. However, let's not forget that the top contenders do live comfortably off of the sponsorship deals they get.

is this type of thing sort of similar to what the ufc does in terms of the ufc paying a guy 8k for the fight, but the fighter actually making quite a good amount of money because of the sponsors he has?

In order for the Prize money to jump there needs to be a jump in Popularity among the masses..

I.E.- What the UFC did for MMA !! With THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER. That brought a fan base which sent MMA mainstream. Before MMA took off Fighters were getting like 500 dollar purses.. and even big names were "LUCKY" to skirt away 10 grand. Now I heard some of the BIG NAMED FIGHTERS --[Anderson Silva, Chuck Liddell [before not now], and Brock Lesnar] are getting anywheres from 200k- 1mil for the fight.. X=Amount for Apppearance and X= Amount for the Win.

I have no clue HOW Bodybuilding can do this, 1) it's not an entertainment sport.. you don't see people getting knocked out, or limbs broken.. so therefore it wont draw ridiculous crowds.. 2) Bodybuilding encompasses the use of Performance Enhancing Substances and for the most part substances that are BANNED. So they can't do a reality show and then Prior to workouts watch the dudes Eat a couple of DBOL and take a shot of Tren.. It'ss just not going to happen.

So Bodybuilding will remain to have it's CULT Following and yes over time it will increase in Popularity because people are intrigued by the "SUPER HUMAN" Figure.. the Mass Monsters. The ability to get the Human body to surpass genetics. And Bodybuilders will live comfortably on SPONSORSHIPS and PRIZE money they do win from the competitions, I mean I would LOVE to see it go Mainstream. I would LOVE to see All of us hard working Bodybuilders get paid the big bucks like the rest of tthe PRO-ATHLETE's out there.. I just don't think it will ever happen..

**THIS IS ALL MY OWN OPINION AND SHOULD BE REGARDED AS SUCH !!**

bodybuilding just isn't mainstream enough to get big money. I think it's better off being more underground, but if anabolics didn't have such a negative rep then it wouldn't be that big of a deal and bodybuilding would be much more accepted as a mainstream sport. unfortunately that's just the way it is.

I'm kinda glad it doesn't take off....could You imagine if it did...? Everyguy in the gym would be "future bodybuilders" like how nowadays 1 out of every few guys in the gym tells You they are MMA fighters:D. People like ourselves who usually are the better built in the gym would be hounded with every idiot asking/telling Us about his cycle, supps, diet & training. If the sport had HUGE paydays We would no longer be different....We'd be just like everyone else.

This is a GREAT point!

I agree the compensation aspect of the sport is disgusting... pure exploitation of the athletes no way around it.

i do not want bodybuilding to be a mainstream sport nor do i ever think it could be. i like the fact that it has a "cult" following and agree with the points made by mightyjohn and some of the others. i was just in shock when i saw what the 202 prize money was compared to the other classes.

Well,

10th place in the Olympia-Men, only got a whopping $14,000 :rolleyes::confused:

Let's think about this....

You are the 10th best BB'r in the world, and your final paycheck in competition is a measely $14,000:confused:

The 6-10 placings didn't get paid over 20,000 I think, after a WHOLE year of putting themselves on the line. That is fukking crazy. I know we do this bodybuilding stuff as a lifestyle and for fun and enjoyment, but something in this picture is missing imo:confused:

That is a disgrace, and just one more reason to not compete and spend all the money it takes to get to that level. IMO, unless you are consistent top 5, and have the genetics to get to that level, then you better have something else to fall back on....education, job, or kick-ass supplement contracts.

IMO, figure and Bikini at the Olympia should never get more than at least the top 10 Mr. Olympian finalists. I'm fine with Iris and the Ms. Olympia champions getting paid well.

I hope they get paid much better in supplement contracts.

How much does an average top 10 Olympian get paid in supplement contract??? I'm not sure if this is personal, so I apologize ahead of time if it is:)

I've heard that Muscletech matches any contest winnings.

So $100,000 = $200,000

When I think about bodybuilding I think about it along the lines of other nonmainstream professions/sports(I for instance played pro roller hockey, did I make a living, NO, was it a nice hobby for a few extra bucks & some travel YES)...it gave Me an excuse to do what I loved doing at the time

I doubt that. However, muscle tech does pay it's top guys very well.
