I'll try to make this short. My gf's grandfather of 85 fell sick about 5 years ago with a heart that only 15% was working. The dr's wanted to do open heart knowing he was too weak to make it. The family decided no surgery. I took care of him for around 2 years just about everyday. I had him to the point where he actually shot the basketball a few times. During this time and still today, he has a permanent catheter. Regularly has bladder infections.
2 years ago he broke his hip (not on my time) and been pretty much bed ridden since. They have full time sitters that tend to him now. Lately he hasn't been eating and has an infection for quite a while. He's confused and doesn't know much that is going on. Yesterday a nurse went to check him out and said he may only have 6 months left.
I understand he lived his life and the time I took care of him I know in my heart I did what I could for him and his health.
My question would be is there anything like a peptide (GHRP-6) that could help him eat or anything that would just help him period? Not looking to do any harm just maybe thought there might be something that may help.

Thanks

Bro, my hat off to you. I know what you are going through. My father is 91 and soon to be 92. He is bedridden and not knowing much of what goes on around him. I have done everything for my dad and always went the extra mile. I have to say that it took a great deal out of me, but he is my father and I never gave up on him - as he never gave up on me. At times I put my lifting behind me for his care. And I will never regret choosing being by my father than lifting. We were told the same that his days are counted. So, in my honest opinion is spend quality time with him and never regret anything as you have been absolutely great to your grandpa. And, as my father ever once in a while he remembers me and is always thanking me for just be a great son. There is really not much you can do for him . . just make whatever lil time you have with him the best. God bless you both.

I would investigate nootropics for the problems with senility. Tread with caution here, but do tread if you want to solve some of these problems. Some senility is unavoidable (as neurogenesis halts and neurons die).

Investigate hydergine (ergoloid mesylates) and piracetam with choline donator (such as soy lecithin).

Growth hormone also sounds like it might help, but then again I always have the fear in old people that it will accelerate cancers wildly out of control (I dont know if this is founded or not I have to examine it).

I am also researching these issues as my parents age I begin to think about helping them with suggestions for alternate drug therapy that could improve their lives.

400mg Humanofort per day would help big time.

Thank you and God bless both of you also.
Our situation is a little different as it is you and your father... blood.
Not that I didn't care for my girlfriends grandfather as if he were my own. I don't remember my mothers parents much and my fathers parents died well before I was born so I was fortunate to take care of my gf's.
Like you said, I don't regret a second with the man. I pretty much didn't do anything except take care of him. No job, no lifting, hardly left the house. We got along very well and I think it can be attributed to the fact that we aren't blood related.
My first post wasn't looking for a miracle cure, maybe just inclined to know how powerful these peptides are that are out there. He's been on borrowed time for about 5 years now so his children and grandchildren had some extra time with him.
I guess in my eyes I built him up. Made him stronger. Got him as healthy as possible. I fully understand when someones number is called, it is called. Learned that at too young of an age.

Yes, at that age Growth hormone use need to be supervized by a MD, you don`t want the IGF-1 go out of range, that is no no.

thank you for the information and I will look it up. He doesn't have cancer and I also wonder if GH would help. I've read an article, not sure on here or not, that a 90 y/o lady that broke her hip, would never walk, and wouldn't survive much longer started taking GH and she healed completely. She is more active that before.

That answers that question. Thank you.
As I've just stated in a previous post, I'm not looking for a miracle cure, just interested to know with the medicine we have access to, and the great knowledge that this board provides, what are possible options maybe not for him but anyone in the future.

agaim, I go back to my original reply . . just being with him as much as you can will make a difference. Adding anything else could be very detrimental. I have something that I was giving my father. Selepryl... it helped for sometime and then as all .. his condition worsened.

At 85 I wouldnt risk his health any further. I have much respect for you for taking care of this man.

When you say that his heart is only working at 15% I am going to assume that the Drs mean this is his ejection fraction, which is most likely what they mean. I can tell you from experience with my Dad that once a persons heart gets to the level things start to go pretty rapidly. Unless you can get his heart to contract harder NOTHING you give him will make him eat or function better since the heart is the center of all the bodies functions.

The only supplement that I personally have found that can make the heart function better is CO Q10. Do some research and see what you can find as there is a lot of info out there and a bunch of studies that have been done that shows the power of CO Q10. Good luck!

Magnum, what's funny is I know about CoQ10 because I like to read about herbal supplements and try that before any prescription. As a matter of fact I just received the new Vitacost magazine this morning because I order from them. I never thought to add CoQ10 or try to at least let the family know about it. I believe in these herbal supplements such as Red Yeast Rice. Saw a special on TV with studies showing Red Yeast Rice worked better at lowering bad cholesterol and raising good cholesterol than the prescription drugs but of course a Dr. won't say that.
Thanks for reminding me of this and I'll pass it on to his family.

You're welcome, hope things work out.
