This a little long but hopefully is going to be helpful.
I am quite lean guy year round, always about 12%bf or less. And even though I don’t have much body fat I have a toll of fat around my lower abs.
This has been developing for the last few years, even when I lost a lost of weight due to a surgery I still kept that roll.
About 2 years ago I had no energy, tired all the time, working long hours, sleeping about 6h a night waking up at 5am and taking one more fat burner to tart the day and them another to keep going and them a full pot of tea to not pass out. On top of that since I was about 10 I never sleep well. I sleep trough the night and/or wake up fully rested 3 or 4 times a year
I knew that something was wrong and that it wouldn’t get better on its own.
I talked to my MD and run a bunch of exams and said that everything was normal.
We did some more exams and… NOTHING.
At this point I decided to see a Naturopath.
She used Traditional Chinese Medicine and all my blood work for my diagnosis (my MD was very cooperative) plus a complete assessment of my overall physical state.
And… BINGO.
Adrenal fatigue + liver toxicity.
I just cut all caffeine cold turkey, took a series of botanicals, acupuncture and homeopathic remedies.
After a while I was feeling great but my roll of fat wasn’t gone.
I went back to my lifestyle long hours, lack of sleep, bla, bla, bla…
Last year I took the short form of Biosignature Modulation and Charles Poliquin just landed his eyes on me and said: high cortisol.
We stared doing case studies and they brought this woman that had a series of issues and he asked her if she woke up every night at the same time: yes she did!
He said that according to traditional Chinese medicine that was caused for a certain unbalance…..
About October last year I started to wake up EVERY night at precisely at 1 and 3 am.
Again I was tired taking pills and a load of caffeine to go trough my day.
I decided that that was enough.
I stopped booking clients early in the morning (I wake up at 6:30 am now instead of 5) and stopped going to bed after 11 am as well (normally 10:30 pm).
In December I set up another appointment with a Naturopath.
This was my 1sr caffeine free week and even though I felt that I just had finished fighting the whole Russian Army; I could push trough it. I felt exhausted every day between 12 and 2 or 3 and just didn’t have the energy to do weight training but could find a way to do some sort of cardio plus a Pilates class.
Yesterday I had another appointment with the ND she tested my reflexes and… they are crap (another sign that the adrenals are toasted). I was so tired that I slept during the acupuncture session. And even though I didn’t sleep a lot (only 7 hours as I had to teach a early morning class) I woke up feeling great.
Today I went to Chinatown and got some TCM medicine that supposedly will help me.
Next week I cut sugar all together.
Them alcohol.
Hopefully to the beginner of summer my body will be working properly and I’ll b able to go back to the gym and push as I like to do.
This lifestyle changes????
In my case they are mandatory if I want to be as healthy as I can.
The reason I am posting this???
I don’t know maybe just bring awareness, may be just making myself accountable…
