i have managed to get a weight vest and was wondering if these could be used as an effective chest or tricep exercise. ive always felt the press up but need to knock out a shit load of reps. i tried using a resistance power band but all the tension was at the lockout not throughtout.

i love weighted dips and thought these would be quite similar??

They're a good alternative to dips, once in awhile. Just more of a hassle for a little variety. Definitely gotta do more reps or sets because I doubt you'll be able to strap enough weight to work the 5-15 rep range (unless the trainer is a beginner).

Here's an idea I've been working on. Build an elevated push-up platform, say four feet high, that allows you to add weight just like a dip belt except the weight will hang directly below your sternum supported by a shoulder harness and chain, I'm thinking seatbelt material or similar.

I think under the sternum would be best because theoretically it would pitch the upper chest up and the lower chest down just a enough so the exercise hits the pecs at the sweet spot.

Or you could don a backpack backwards and have someone tie it real tight so you have shoulder mobility, then just add weight to the pack.

If you can add enough weight and do enough reps it will be a superior exercise to the bench press, dumbbell or barbell.

You may also want to try one-arm push-ups for some variety.
