Anyone own a Curves franchise?

These places are big here in NY,basically a gym for fat women.They have a circuit of machines and it makes the porkers feel like they are doing something.

Anyway,I have a Real Estate client who's wife owns one with over 300 clients in a very trendy part of town.Now I sold them a house in a different part of the city so they want to stay local,as well as have kids,so the business is not for her anymore.However,I remember when I did their financial paperwork on her end she was making over $100 k as manager/owner of the franchise.Not bad for being there part time.

She is getting with a financial guy and deciding how much the business is worth,at which point I am getting first dibs if I want it. Question is whats the whole story with these places? Im thinking of doing it if it makes sense and sticking with Real Estate as well.......

Hey BN, I personally think they are a joke! But the real truth is they make money! So if the fat ladies feel comfortable in that environment then at least they are off their asses and doing something. Since you have the inside knowledge of the Biz have a good look at it! Like I said, they do make money. These things are starting to pop up around the place here in OZ and they are reasonably popular. If the financials look good and you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it, grab it!

The only problem I see with you owning a Curves, is that this establishment draws in women who already have self image problems, thus, thats why they are avoiding a mainstream gym. If they went in there and saw you walking around, that may deter them from your particular Curves. It may something you might wanna think about, limit your prescence or somethin.

Sooner or later people will realize that the fatties are just pretending to exercise there and there is really no fitness happening there.

Look at how the machines are designed for Curves. They are pushing viscus fluid through chambers, which means 5lbs of pressure or 500lbs or pressure feel and look exactly the same... These machines actually encourage you to try LESS hard.

BN, it's not a bad business to get into but i think you should know right up front, if the business starts to slack a little and you want to say boost up the profits by making and selling water bottles, t-shirts, gym bags with the curves logo on it and your footing the bill for it, "YOU CAN NOT SELL IT". Anything that has a "curves" logo on it can not be sold but given away! The is a very true statement. You can make money by selling prefilled water bottles like at the gyms. But you can't slap a curves logo on it and sell it. Also if you sign a lease for say 7 years, you are locked into the contract even if the business fails. Other then that, it's all the fat chicks you can handle for 7 years! Enjoy bro!

You guys are right about this.Even though Im a fat fuck right now,I still got muscle and plenty of ink.These fat women will feel very insecure,I need to hide in the basement,lol.Hey Ouch,If you gave me a million dollars I would grow my hair out,grow a beard and wear a yarmulka,I swear!!

I know its a good opportunity,I just have to see if the numbers make sense.I have been reading up on Curves and they are pretty big in OZ so I feel that oldfella should change his gym into one of these,haha.

Hey BN funny you mention that. I was seriously looking into it. But my real gym side told me It was against my principals. The greedy side said fuck principals,it's about the money. I already have some fat ladies at my gym but they are actually changing for the better. One has lost about 15kgs in a couple of months anf the other 7kgs in just on a month. thet are actually enjoying the lifting and getting stronger part of this. I think you would make some good money with one. Just talk with a jewish NY accent and you're in!! Now you with hair beard and yamulkah, oy vey!!

I know a guy who owns one. He is happy. He also owns three Aunti Ann Prezle stores in malls and a QuiznoSub shop. He finaly quit his full time Job. He said the Curves makes the most $ for the least amount of greif. If you could open up a clone of Curves you wouldn''t have to pay the franchise fees but you would not get the support. This guy said if he had to do it again he would get a job for a manager at the Franchies and learn the business that way and make mistakes with the owners $. Then take that info and open up his own place. I can put you in touch with this guy if you want.

Hey guys, I own one in Adelaide Australia.

I do keep in the background a bit even though I am not gigantic. We have 400 plus members and about half of them are getting very good results. It is a great little business which gives me a real lifeltyle I want. I get cheap supps, can eat whenever I want, can train whenever I want, can write off food and mags and gym gear off as tax write off. The sytem of machines def. works even if us guys are too hardcore too acknowledge it. I put myself through a workout at the start, trying to break the machines and I literally crawled out half an hour later. Like anything in life, if you put in effort you can get amazing results. I have laides losing anything from 1 to 8 kg of fat per month and some do it every month till they reach their goal. So bottom line, it really does work, it is a great business and you can have the lifestyle which will be the envy of your friends. I dont regret it one bit. These clubs are for women that wouldnt go to a normal weights gym, they arent for bodybuilding, just for getting your heartrate up, toning your muscles and generally burning calories in a safe and friendly environment. I sell whey here and do diets (low carb etc) and basically use all my bodybuilding principles to help women get results. Leon.

My wife is a DM for Lucille Roberts(big chain womens' gym)NY,NJ,PA. These Curves started popping up all over and she assured me that it was just a fad. I sayed she was scared of alittle competition. I had actually considered opening one but she talked me out of it. Guess what-they're still open and I'm seeing more all the time. Bottom line-never listen to a women...
