I'm surprised that none of the vets on this board have commented on the outcome of one of the sport's biggest events yet. I think its probably due to the fact that the competition was a little sub par this year with Victor and some of the other big names out of it like Dennis Wolf, Cutler, and Ronnie to name a few. The top 3 for those who didn't know ended up:

1. Dexter Jackson
2. Phil Heath
3. Kai Green

I always liked the big men and was never really impressed with dexter Jackson as compared to some of the others. It seems like all of the politics involved with the Mr. O. and the other overhyped events like the Arnold Classic have not been what they have been billed to be. It seems like the sport has gone downhill to some degree as of late with people winning that are not really the best in the sport. Just wondering why you don't see guys like Dennis James or Kamali in events like this? Just my opinion, what do ya'll think?

IMO, Dexter Jackson has the perfect physique. Call me old school, but I would rather see someone more conditioned than large framed, with rolling muscle. Just my preference. Dexter has been overlooked for too long as a number 1.

He won Arnold Classic twice before, but I think Victor looked better last year with alot more mass.

If dex were taller I dont see him being beaten.

Couldnt have said it any better right there. Dexter is overlooked too much. If he had a bit more height like some of those other guys to go with his insane symmetry, conditioning, lines, etc. he would be unstoppable. I still think he is the best along with Victor and Wolfe. I am excited to see some olympia battles coming up in the next few years between Vic, Wolf and Heath. Either way Dex is the 3 time arnold champ, and he deserves every bit of it.

the arnold is an invite only competition. james hasnt placed well in a couple years and kamali, well kamali has been on a downward spiral for several years now check out his ironman pics.

DJ took a 6 month break and is finally back in the gym after moving to Arizona. So he obviously wasn't going to compete.

KK, well.......

i thought the cpmpetition this year was awesome. the top 4 were very close and although i am a branch fan, i think the judges did a great job.

I look at Dexter and see insane conditioning and very good balance for his frame. Dexter is carrying almost the max amount of muscle he can while maintaining his good lines. He deserved the win this year.
The person I would have moved up if I was a judge was Branch Warren. I think he has good balance with huge thickness and mass and his conditioning this year was worthy of 2nd IMHO.

I just saw him yesterday at my store. I chatted with him for a couple mins and by the look of things, his weight is going back up. Just to kind of put things in perspective............

The guy has been taking it easy and getting back into the swing of things after a lay off and he still was wide as ever. Seeing someone like that in person will really make you re-think how well you are doing everything. I mean he is "shrunk" down (whatever that means) and still dwarfs anyone you see in your gym. Kinda makes you want to train harder in my opinion....its motivating!

I don't think you actually attended the Arnold classic. Pictures and internet videos do not tell the full story. Dexter looked like a complete freak and improved his size tremendously from last year.

The reason no "vets" chimed in is because clearly there was nothing to chime in about. Dex one fair and square, 100% no arguments.

If anyone got a little bit jerked around here it was Branch Warren, who clearly should have been #2, and then it was a real toss up between Phil and Kai. Phil looked nice and ripped and has perfect lines, but Kai just has so much more size, muscle maturity and shows his physique so much better that I would have had him in his rightful spot of 3 with phil in 4th.

But given the popularity of Phil and considering his Ironman victory, they had to "give" him 2nd place.

Branch definitely should have been in the #2 slot however.

Other than that, I'm not sure where you're coming from because this was one of the better Arnold classics we've seen in a while.

I didn't say that Dexter didn't deserve to win. I just said that it was a little lackluster with some of the other big names like Victor and Dennis Wolf not even in the competition. I wouldn't say it was one of the better Arnold Classics compared to other years. Did you go to Arnold Classic? How does that relate to the history of the event if I was there or not?

I think brooklyn is just pointing out that when you are at a show in person and see the pre judging and comparisons for yourself, you get the true first hand story of what is going down, who looks their best, etc. Also, when youre in the crowd watching youre seeing what the judges are seeing, from the same direction at the same stage. If you just look online, you get a good sense, but different camera angles, etc. may take away from actually being there and judging in person. I cant really talk though, since I do most of my own judging from the MD photo galleries. I also agree with you ironone1, it lacked some of the stars like victor and wolf, which would have made it way more close and fun to see. I like the arnold classic show personally more than the olympia, but I'm excited to see victor, heath, dexter, wolf and greene doing battle on the olympia stage.

Yeah I know what he's saying that you get more of a first hand feel for things being there in person. I'm sure the competitors looked good but again, just saying that alot of the top stars weren't there in such a big competition. Who knows, Dexter could have won anyways.

I sincerely believe that there isn't a bodybuilder on the planet today who can compare to Dexter. He should win every contest he enters IMO.

That is the most perfect first post I have ever seen! And no because your agree with me, but that is a plus!
