Better Labrada?

hunter is still very young, probably 3-4 seasons away from his prime..NO One has aged better after the stage than LEE, that's a fact! no skin issues, no long elbows , still has his hair, made a shit ton money, and no cave man forehead.

It’s always been considered a fetish and freak show by the general public. It’s called bodybuilding not physique maintaining.

Actually body building was acceptable by the general public at one time. It was on shows like Wide World of Sports. The freakish nature started mostly in the 90s. Yes, extended guts were the norm at one time. It wasn't about Body Building as much as a freak show. Put a picture of Lee and Hunter up and the general public would say Lee is the better body builder, hands down. If it wasn't for divisions like Bikini, Physique and Classic, many shows would have been cancelled due to lack of funds. People lost interest in body building due to drug abuse awhile ago. The general public came back to these shows due to classes like physique and bikini.

And in the 90s and early 00s it was on ESPN and making more money than it did in the golden era. It has always been considered a freak show by the general public though. It started on stages as a side show act. That’s the literal history.
The Lee and hunter question is disingenuous. Put a picture of Ronnie next to Hunter and ask them.

Good point pesty.

But you can go back further than that. They used to fill Madison Square garden
on a regular basis regularly with 'physique demonstrations' (posing, etc.) and
strong man events. These folks were treated like movie stars. It was very very
popular at one point in time.

I'm gonna have to go with Lee being that he is of legendary status.

I do appreciate that Hunter keeps his gut in check and his waist tight. I'm enthusiastic about his future but have doubts that he can accomplish what his father was able to. Though it may be unfair to constantly compare the two.

Well, if you want to go that far back, actually Bodybuilding by the ancient Greeks served as the origin and inspiration for its practice by most later societies. Modern competitions grew largely out of European strongman theatrical and circus acts of the late 19th century. In the early 1900s, they started holding Bodybuilding shows, not circus acts or side shows. At that point, people were filling audiences. I imagine it should have more money in the 90s and early 00s, inflation by that time went up the roof by that time. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 3.89% per year between 1970 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 600.25%.

You put a picture of Ronnie and current Hunter and most of the general public would not like either one. Your perception of what a good physique is versus the general public is totally different. Most would say a normal physique guy looks best. Lee even though more then likely took gear, still had a look that didn't look over drugged.

Most of the general public associates drug use with Bodybuilding, sad but true.
Not saying I am not impressed by some of these guys, but how much is too much?

This is historically inaccurate.

This is historically inaccurate.
Yes it is. It was invented by Eugene Sandow and took place as a carnival attraction, also known as a side show.

The first comp was in 1901 it was called the Great Competition.

Read Muscle Smoke and Mirrors, Volume I by Randy Roach. This the most authoritative book on the subject we seem to be going back and forth on. It is a great read and very informative.

Hope this helps.

Not really inaccurate, just left out details. History tells us Friedrich Wilhelm Müller was born in East Prussia in 1867.

To avoid military service, Müller travelled all over Europe and eventually came under the tutelage of a strongman named Professor Atilla.

With Professor Atilla, he joined the circus, changed his name to Eugen Sandow, and performed feats of strength. But the income from this wasn’t enough to sustain him.
Fortunately, he leveraged his physique and attractive features to model for sculptures. His frame was the inspiration for many famous works still kept on display in museums all over Europe today.

In 1901 was the world's first major body building competition, in London's Royal Albert Hall.

So, modern Bodybuilding did originate out of Europe, like I said. I just didn't mention Eugene Sandow by name, and we know he is credited for it.
