Well I recently had Blood work done and was suprised by a few things. Numbers were a little bit worse than last time.

RBC 6.40 range 4.10-5.60
Hemoglobin 18.6 range 12.5-17.0
Hamatocrit 53.2 range 36.0-50.0

I'm going to give blood a few times. I'm sure that will help rectify this

BUN 32 Range 5-26
***Not even sure what BUN stands for???

Lipid Profile
HDL 36 Range 40-59 (was 48 a year and a half ago)
LDL 97 Range 0-99 (was 82 a year and a half ago)

What supplements can I take to Help Improve Lipid Profile? I currently use
Fish Oil Pills. I did a search and I see Niacin is good but is there special form I should use? any other ones I'm missing?

Another thing that I didn't like seeing was that my TSH was 3.351 and last time it wasa 2.02. What could cause this to chage so much in a year or so? does this flucuate at times?

My doc recommended I take 1000mg of niacin daily b/c my HDL was low. They have a "flush free" niacin now that is really great. Have'nt noticed any flush at all. I started at 500mg and then worked my way up to 1000mg over a couple of weeks. Niacin doesn't work on everyone. My doc said they usually go up to 2-4 grams if necessary. I'm a natty but I know my dad's HDL is low too just like mine and we have similar lipid profiles so some of it may be genetic. What was your creatinine and albumin?

Drink more water to get Blood urea nitrogen level down. HDL looks good. Are you on Deca? You may want to get off of that and lower your test dosage also. BLod clots are in your future if you do not rectify things in the very near future.

A simple and easy way to improve lipid profile is to clean your diet. Avoid saturated fats (contained in red meats, cheese...), trans fats (fried foods), eat more monoinsaturated fats (olive oil, avocados), more fruits (fibers, anti-ox, vital enzymes). Oats also contain a type of fiber that helps fighting bad cholesterol.

does this stuff(negative blood test results) and crappy diets(high saturated fat) and gear use really cause something seriously negative to occur? me as a gear using bodybuilder and lots of fast food don't think i'm in danger. it's hard for me to think so when i don't drink or smoke and i can see some of my abs.maybe i'm fooling myself..?

The increased RBC's are a direct result of androgen use, donating blood will lower it 1-2%.
the problem is that you can only give every 54 days or so. I have in the past given to 2 different donation sites to give 2 pints every 50 days or so like the Red Cross and then the American Blood Bank.
Cycling off really doesn't help as the RBC's live for 4 months so you can see how the problem compounds itself.
Blood urea Nitrogen is usually an indicator of kidney function-however if one trains too close to a blood test a w ide array of enzymes will be elevated from the torn down tissue and BUN is one of those.
Phils right on the water, drink a lot more-especially for those on higher protein diets which dehydrate you.
I wrote something up on cardiac supps I'll search for it.

Digestion and overall health I use this YEAR round-
Since I am asked about this most often and thanked as well -here's a repost...
ginger root (1000 mgs with each meal)
acidophilus (with pectin 2-3 caps with each meal)
metamucil (2 tablespoons once a day)
bromelain 1-2 500 mg tabs 2-3 times a day.

Benefits of Ginger Root

Danish researchers found that ginger root can block the effects of prostaglandin - a substance that cause inflammation of the blood vessels in the brain and can lead to migraines.

Ginger root was found to be effective for relieving the severity of nausea even in cases of pregnancy.

It has anti-inflammatory properties that can lessen the pain of rheumatoid arthritis.

Respiratory infections - it is well known for its warming action on the upper respiratory tract, so it has been used to treat colds and flu.

It has been found to be effective in cramps caused by stomach gas. Ginger also stimulates digestion.

It has a wholesome effect on the circulatory system as it makes the platelets less sticky and is of great benefit in case of circulatory disorders.

As a mood enhancer, ginger root's cineole content may help contribute to stress relief.

Bromelain

DO Not over dose on bromelain, rapid heart beat and super thin blood can result if people are popping bromelain like candy it's a supplement with drug like effects. I would not exceed 6 500 mg tabs a day and go off it on cruises.
Watch the potency on bromelain too different tabs and caps can be different mg strengths and higher GDU (gelatin digesting units) I wouldn't exceed 3000 GDU's a day.
Acidolp-I get the caps that are refrigerated for potency vs the freezedried ones.
Acidophilus

Acidophilus offers variety of potential therapeutic uses. These include:

• Aids digestion and suppresses disease-causing bacteria.
• Treat overgrowth of bad organism in the gastrointestinal tract.
• Prevent and treat diarrhea, including the infectious diarrhea, particularly from the rotavirus.
• Alleviate symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and possibly, inflammatory bowel disease.
• Replaces the friendly intestinal bacteria that are destroyed by antibiotics.
• Prevent and reduces the recurrence of vaginal yeast infection, urinary tract infections and cystitis.
• Improve lactose absorption in people who are lactose intolerant.
• Enhances the immune response. Studies have suggested that the consumption of yogurt and milk that contains specific strains of acidophilus supplements improve the natural immune response.
• Aids the treatment of respiratory infections such as sinusitis, bronchitis and pneumonia.
• Lower the risks of allergies such as asthma, hay fever, allergies to milk and skin reactions such as eczema.
• Help in treating high cholesterol.

Benefits of Fiber

Combats constipation
The most undisputed advantage of insoluble fibre is its ability to soften and expand stool volume, speeding up fecal transit and elimination.
Commercial preparations such as agar (Agarol) and psyllium (Metamucil) are effective stool bulkers.

Improves control
Soluble fibre from legumes, barley, oats, some fruit and vegetables can help regulate blood sugar swings and by lowering serum cholesterol, protect against heart disease.

Excess blood fats are possibly reduced by soluble fibres such as pectin, bean and oat gums, and the types in legumes (lentils, chickpeas, navy, pinto or kidney beans).

Heart health
May improve by diets rich in fibre, through its cholesterol lowering effects.

Possible protection against cancer
In the bowel, bacteria converts fibre into short chain fatty acids, which provide energy for the body and may help protect against cancer.

This is what I take year round for heart health as I am 35 and Beleive the body wears itself out as you get older so I am on these things year round.
younger guys may not need this.
To try and control cholesterol levels from juice I'd recommend Omega III's, niacin, and Red Yeast Rice all the other things like Ester C and E and regular vitamins and Bromelain have a health enhancing effect also-lowering blood pressure a bit, keeping the clotting factors down etc.

most of the time I take the things in Bold year round s my staples..

Here's a thread about what all the different tests mean:

"BUN: Urea is the chief end product of protein metabolism. It is formed almost entirely by the liver from both protein digestion and protein metabolism in the liver. BUN should only be determined on fasting patients since there is an increase in the blood values after ingestion of protein."

Thanks for all the replies...this board is great

Little Mack. Thanks for the info.

My Creatinine was 1.5 range (.5-1.5)
abumin was 4.7 range (3.5-5.5)

Phil

I had low testosterone for over a year and had lost a lot of weight. I discussed that with you awhile back when I first talked to you on the phone. THis was about 2 springs ago I believe. Since then I have not gone over 300 mgs of test only. The Majority of that time was 200 mgs or even 150 mgs. Most recently it was 300 though. And throught out that time I cycled off alot and used Novedex XT. Right now I am on nothing But Novedex XT by Gaspari Nutrition. My Test levels were at 1,000 after only 2 weeks of use (great product). My Blood was slightly thick before but they seem to have gotten a little bit worse.

Is there anything else I can do to improve BUN other than drinking more water?

Phidias. My diet is pretty clean. I don't think I could really make any drastic changes.

Massive G, Thanks for all the info. I am impressed with your knowledge. SO would you recomend trying to give blood to 2 clinics? is that safe?

I never eat fast food, never drink, and have never smoked a cigarette. My diet is clean and I feel healthy but how u feel or what you think isn't always the case.

I have used higher dosages (but still moderate) in the past but like I said it has been years. Some of my numbers were originally slightly elevated from this. I thought they would improve from the combination of being off (using natural test boosters) and taking low doses but they acutally have gotten a little bit worse.

YOU MAY NEED TO GO DOWN TO 100 MG PRE WEEK OF HRT.

Agree with Phil.
My hematocrit rises slightly on Androgel, so I have the endo and hemo keep an eye on it.
I know many guys on legit HRT as well with there hematocrit rises as well.
You are doing the right thing by looking at your blood work and fixing the issues.
Donating blood twice in a month will not hurt you, you will generally drop about 1.5 % on the hematocrit level with each donation.
I know many guys that don't get bloodwork and when they do they ignore it and it is setting them up for long term problems.

Yes. Listen to Phil and Massive G. Kidneys need water to flush out the Creatinine and BUN. Your creatinine is on the high side of things. I am beginning to doubt the accuracy of these values in people who lift and train hard. My creatinine runs high in my blood but also in my urine. I have creatinine all over the place. hahaha. If you get retested down the line don't train for at least 48 hours before the test. There could be some hydration issues also at play here. The great thing is that your learning more about your body and what values tend to be off. None of this looks "alarming" and these are things that can all be tweaked.

WHAT YOU MEAN IS THAT ALTHOUGH YOUR CREATININE LEVELS MAY BE HIGH IN YOUR BLOOD, YOUR CREATININE CLEARANCE FROM YOUR 24 HOUR URINE SAMPLE IS HIGH ALSO, WICH IS HEALTHY. 1.5 CREATININE LEVEL IN THE BLOOD FOR A MALE WHO WORKSOUT IS NOT HIGH. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS. CREATININE CLEARANCE IS THE TEST FOR KIDNEYS THAT YOU NEED. YOU COULD POSSIBLY HAVE A LOWER BLOOD CREATININE LEVEL ANSD A LOW CLEARANCE AND THATS NOT OK.

That's right Phil. I was having a hard time explaining this last night after getting back from a family christmas party :D

Phil? Do you remember if my hemoglobin was high too? I think it was, but I don't have my results with me. Let me check when I get home, but I remember my doc telling me that she felt it was due to lack of hydration b/c my "cell shape" looked good
from my other values.

One more thing Conan. I do not like to simply rely on the ranges that labs give. Every lab gives a different set of ranges that it defines as the healthy range. I suggest doing a little research when you see numbers out of range like this. I've got a healthy range of 4.7 to 6.1 million cells/mcl from medline. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003644.htm Which makes it appear that your not as far off as you thought. Hey, at least you don't have to worry about anemia...hahahah...just a joke.
