Just came from the MD site. Branch has a vidio up about back training so I clicked it. During the vid he goes on to tell what he did after the Olympia. He describes in detail about his deadly bear hunting trip.
They had a dozen dogs that they cut loose for tracking the bear. They road horses for over eleven miles and then could hear in the distance that the bear had quit running and made a stance in a valley. They road into the valley and saw the bear holding the dogs at bay. They then cut a pittbull loose and the pit ran in and grabbed the bears balls with its teeth. The bear then climbed up a tree where they shot and killed the bear. They shot and killed a tree'd bear?
I had no idea how dangerous this sport is! That bear could have fallen out of the tree and crushed them!

i also had a deadly encounter

cleaning leaves from my gutters

I COULD HAVE GOTTEN KILLED!!!!!

That bear could have fallen out of the tree and crushed them!

I'm going to guess they weren't standing right under the bear when they shot it.

wow, yuppy hunting with a guide and dogs, for a little black bear? bears are more intelligent than dogs. I'm all for hunting, but this is pussy shit right here, all my respect for branch is gone, and it was quite a bit.

Yeah same here!

ZERO RESPECT for branch warren for this! He shouldnt even be allowed to call himself a man after this.

Fuckin low motherfucker.

thats the standard way to hunt bears lol.

They are FAST, I was talking to Brian about this the other day. Sometimes they make a 10-15 mile run before the dogs wear them out.

Guys unless you've gone bear hunting don't be so quick to judge.

lol some of these guys dont understand....

they don't use pitbulls to hunt bears

generaly just hounds to bay the animal where it is killed. I don't see any differance between this and shooting them while they are eating out of a barrel full of fish and other food. I'm an avid hunter , and I have hunted several animals with dogs , deer , rabbits and mostly hogs. Hunting with hounds has been done for generations and its not likely to change. I personaly have to desire to hunt blackbears at all , I'd love the chance to bow hunt coastal browns in Alaska though

ive hunted coyotes over dogs, people just dont understand they get an idea and run with it. Untill you have been there and done it all you have is an opinion like him or not he is a good bber. He can prolly stand to loose a few fans to people who are heavily opinionated on an issue they have yet to encounter.

FUCK AT LEAST GIVE THE ANIMAL A CHANCE YOU FAGGOTS!DESPICABLE

LOL , its funny how alot of people are against hunting and the bag limits that are out their , they think that we are gonna hunt animals into extintion , when actualy alomst all game animals are more populated now that at the turn of the century , hell the white tailed deer populations are now higher in the US than even in recorded history and considering that they are living on about 75% less land than 100 years ago , mass sickness is spreading , FAST.

I don't totaly agree with huntin bears with dogs but to each his own , their are alot of folks down here who hunt deer with dogs , mostly because areas are so think that you can't hunt the animals in it so dogs are used to push them out.

I hunt pigs with dogs , generaly 3-4 bay dogs and one catch dog ,the catch dog is turned loose at the last second and attacks the pigs head , then we come around the back and grab the back legs and flip them over and tie them up. After a few weeks of feeding them out they are butchered.
Is that inhumane?

but like I said I'm not intrested in bear hunting and I don't think that their numbers have reached the point where liberal bag limits are needed but hunting them does help controle their numbers and if anybody has been around them they know just how hard it is to spot them let alone hunt them with conventional tactics.

Gunsmith, I read your posts and respect what you have to say. However, saying that people have hunted with dogs for generations doesnt make it "OK". Shooting ANY kind of animal up its ass in a tree is NO kind of sport or test of skill. And I know from reading your posts you know this. Dogs are doing the hunting. The guy with the gun is just shooting some poor preoccupied wild animal out of a tree. You made my point in your post. "conventional tactics" is tuff. But that is true hunting. The dogs remove the sport from the game. Dogs in hunting should be used to retrieve birds after being hunted.

Hey GymdudeVA, dont bring up Micheal Vick any more. I just cry and cry and cry. Hell it took me 45 minutes to pick my head up from the keyboard after reading your post. Man you cut to the bone!........

Too bad the bear didn't eat him and the dogs

I have been a hunter since I was 8yrs old...now am 33. Although I am a hunter, I do not condone the use of dogs to "run a bear to death" and then have a lazy hunter from miles away drive up to the bear, either by vehicle or 4 wheeler and kill the bear. Where is the sport in that???? There is no scouting or tracking, no thought at all. Just let the dogs run em down...pathetic. I may be in the minority of hunters that feels this way. When hunting I am out in nature, being a part of it. Using my skills and wit to try and think ahead of the animal I am hunting...running dogs is not sport, just inhumane.

I live in Wisconsin. This summer I read in the paper about some guy teaching his dogs to run bear and having his prize hound killed by wolves. I felt bad for the dog, not the owner. Dogs were let out and had run a bear some 8 miles or so. Unfortunately they ran through a den of wolves in the process.

Just my thoughts and opinion for what its worth..

I supose you could call this a hunt, but not a fair one. I saw where they are putting gps tranponders on the dog pack to track so when the dogs stop they figure they have a bear treed, drive up and bang. At some point the line between hunting and lazy ass hunting from the truck cab needs to be defined.

Shooting an animal in a tree

Or asleep, or in a cage, or tied to a tree.

At least there's a greater chance of killing the animal with a single shot. They don't run 1/2 mile wounded, or escape to die a slow death. The dog thing is kinda british fox hunting prissiness. But if you are hunting for food for your family use what ever means necessary.

But in my opinion, hunting is not a sport. The animal loses it's life, you lose nothing. But I am not a vegetarian, and I am pro-hunting. I just believe any fat wuss can shoot an animal. I know guys who are so fat they can't make it up a flight of stairs who successfully hunt. There is nothing machismo about shooting anything. And I have several guns.

Go hunt a grizzly with a sword and talk to me about a sport. But don't kill something at 800 meters and tell me you are a man.

If you raise an animal in captivity, then kill it, is that different?
