California DMV Question

I am going to be flying into Orange County next week and leasing a place. I will be getting a California Drivers License (or just ID card if I can get away with using my current license).

Question: Do you walk out of DMV with your regular license like you do here in my state? The site seems to indicate you get a temporary permit and then your permanent license in 60 days or so. Is this temporary paper?

I am concerned about giving up my picture state ID for any period of time. Any help will be appreciated.

Ill add that cops here are not very nice about you using an out of state DL for more than a few days. I got pulled over after being here for 2 weeks and they were threatening to to tow my car sayin you have 10 days to get your registration and DL switched over or its a crime lol

What you can try is what I did when I moved to CA- I wanted to keep old DL so I did not show it- said I lost it, and showed other ID (pic ID from work, birth cert, etc)- if you have any other pic id like a passport, you can do it pretty easy.

I could have showed an old expired DL pic ID I had too- it doesn't matter as they'll still look you up on computer with or without the "real" DL, and you still need to take the tests (written and driving too, at least I did).

i actually did lose my id.. and my ss card.. and i NEED my license ASAP because im flying on the 14th.. they cAn just look me up on the computer correct lol im freaking out because im afraid i wont be able to get on the plane. i hear there is a temp. photo id you can get also.. is that true?

You shouldnt have a problem without your id, i lost mine in vegas and had no problem coming back home. they pull you aside, ask you a few questions, run you through a more advanced detector and thats it.

i have never heard of a temp photo id in CA

Sadie, you should apply for a new ID and get the temp photo ID, which is pretty much a receipt with your picture on it. If they feel like being dicks at the airport they wont let you on..play it safe theres still time.

The one in Temecula and Indio arent as bad as the others. Stay away from oceansides dmv, parking starts half mile away in residental streets. Also be pepeared to see the grossest trash you've ever seen in there. Its like a fair and walmart x 10.
