I have cellulitis of the foot and slightly up to the ankle. I started on bactrim yesterday but i think it's too early to see results. (only had 2 doses so far) and about to take my 3rd. I take it twice daily and i'm wondering if anybody knows when this will start to subside. I'm thinking 36-48 hours. Anyone with experience with cellulitis or in the medical field, I would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

Well

I have cellulitis of the foot and slightly up to the ankle. I started on bactrim yesterday but i think it's too early to see results. (only had 2 doses so far) and about to take my 3rd. I take it twice daily and i'm wondering if anybody knows when this will start to subside. I'm thinking 36-48 hours. Any time now Tom...depends upon how long you let it go before taking antibiotics.......2-4 days hopefully

yes 3 days

thanks Phil....started treatment within 3 days of noticing it.

I had it on my cheek aoubt 10 years ago. It took about 10 days before the swelling was totally gone, but it started getting better within 3 days.

Had it in my left knee in boot camp. It took about a week for the swelling/throbbing/heat to go away completely. I caught mine in advanced stages though.... they had to use syringes to drain the sack of fluid. I imagine that as long as yours is not as advanced it would take less time ? Antibiotics can only help so much though. Gotta stay off of it & keep it dry & clean. (I say dry because they had to open mine up for drainage) :(

I go this twice, left jaw line then 2 weeks later right jaw line 3 years ago. The swelling was so rapid and severe I couldnt completely close my mouth... Both times I was able to get an IV of clindamycin. I would pressure your doctor to perscribe this as they are usually hesitant b/c it is really expensive to them. Luckily i was under a college sports program at the time so they weren't as concerned with cost. Staph is nothing to mess around with.

Forgot to mention, both times the swelling was noticably down by the time the IV was even over and all swelling and rash had dicipated withing 48 hours with pills in addition to IV, clindamycin worked really well for me

i have had this happen to me as well in my foot and within 2-3 days i was feeling better, however it took about 5 days before it was completely pain free.

Just make sure it's not getting worse. If you notice any of the symptoms advancing, get back to the doc asap, it means it is resistant to the antibiotic you're on.
