This is my first shot at a training log, I plan to outline my training and post some videos over the next 7 weeks leading to my next deadlift meet December 1st.

Back ground: Current Wabdl world record holder in 275lb open class @800.5 also hold world records in 13-15yr old and 16-19yr old classes from my younger days.

Goal: Break the USPA Raw American record 825lbs by Mike Tuchscherer. I would like to pull in the 840-850lb range. Long term goal is to get a 900lb dead I believe there has only be 15 to maybe 18 people to ever accomplish this. I feel I have it in my sights in the next year our two.

Stats: Nick Heppner
27 years old
260-270lbs 6’2

I do heavy deadlift and squat work on Wednesdays and speed work on Sundays. My training style is west side barbell based and I pull conventional.

Feel free to ask any questions regarding supps, diet are anything else

Thanks Nick

Video of my 800lb competition pull:

Now to the new stuff last wednesdays heavy dead day:
Nick Heppner 765lb reps 0001 - YouTube

The video was of my last set worked up to 765lbs doing triples all the way.

Assist work
shrugs behind back 495lbs 3x8
seated good mornings 225lbs 3x8
abduction and adduction hip machine work 3x20 on both slow and controlled.
Glut ham 5x10 body weight 2-3 sec negative, super set with ham kick backs 5x10.
Ham kick backs done using leg curl machine more of a isolation movement.
Ab work, done on decline bench by pressing bar from chest to overhead as I perform a sit-up. 4x10 explosive contraction and slow negative.

Notes: I feel my mid-back and hips are my weakest points, so you guys will see a good amount of good morning variations and hip work.

I'm always open to new ideas regarding new movements so any suggestions are appreciated.

That 800lb dead-----

Looked effortless, like you lifted 800 grams. Thats was beastly

Thanks bro, felt heavy as hell at the time but after watching the video I wish I would've went for a 4th attempt around 825-830.

That 800 looked like an opener super easy. Good luck and it looks like the record will be yours.

Thanks bro, going to be a fun meet got some real up and coming guys with Ben Seath from Animal and Justin Randal from At Large Nutrition, Grant Higa from Animal is also lifting.

Cool thread. That bar went up easy.
This might sound like a stupid question, but you purposely set your back like that, right? Is it shorten the ROM or just more comfortable?

To be honest I don't really think about set up much beyond just lining up with the bar. I pull with a slightly rounded back. A lot of factors go into how each person pulls such as height, hamstring strength, mid and lower back plus your stance can all alter your form. If you were talking about the second video of me pulling off the steps thats just to shorten range of movement. I find it harder to pull off a 8-10 inch block than the ground due to the fact your shins push the weight farther away from your center of gravity at the 8-10 inch block level.

I just read that usually only advanced lifters pull like that with a slightly rounded back, because they can. Mark ripppetoe wrote that
I think I would herniate a disk.
You already answered the question thou, thanks.

He says heavy weights pull the top if the back round but the lumbar spine stays in extension.
