what does crohns diseases start out as.?

I have been getting abdominal pain,, and diahhrea every few days. i dont know if it is my diet (cause i started eating a lot) or it is Crohns. Can someone that knows more about crohn help me out?

are you older than 30?

abdominal tenderness, weightloss, fever, diarrhea... ulcerative type symptoms

If your worried go to the doc they will check you for decreased Hgb and Hct, vit b12 and folate, or elevated ESR.

I doubt you have it from the sounds of it... but check your fever, that will at least let you know if it is mild (no temp, can be taken care with oral meds) or more severe.

abdominal tenderness .. i have vague pains near the peri umblical region, that come and go.. hgb and hct normal. b12 normal.

Ulcerative type symptoms?? do u mean diahrrea frequency? i only have to go once a day. sometimes twice max.

I would just make sure you got enough fiber, and not too much fat in your diet for right now, wait a week... if it's still there or any more symptoms (some can come and go like joint swelling and mouth ulcers) go see a doc.

Does the diarrhea interrupt your sleep?

Yea that's why soluble fiber like oats is a lot better since it digests in the intestine and doesn't build up in stool like insoluble

although i do have slight inflamation at hte back of my throat, but the doctor attributed that to stomach acid, since i was having bad heart burns, and have me on prilosec.

i have a CT scan scheduled fro the abdomen, cause i was getting pain near my liver and umblicus .. just slight pain, but i was scared. not that a CT will discover crohns. but if i dont find nething maybe i will ask the doctor buot crohns.

CT of abdomen can be helpful identifying abscesses and other complications you may have.

He could also give you a barium imaging test that is used very frequently for inflammatory bowel disease which is pretty much crohns.

No just going through med school here on east coast.

Honestly it sounds like you have only one symptom of Crohn's, and 1/1000 people have it and usually in their third decade of life.

So I don't think you should be too concerned with Crohn's.

Just when the CT comes back negative (if it does) tell him you still have the symptoms and you can't function with them (job or daily life or whatever)- he'll do some more tests.

I have colitis

I was diagnosed with colitis last year and although it effects adifferent part of the intestines than chrons, it is similar in turns of its efects, though chrons is more problematic. The symptoms are, abdominal spasms, abdominal tederness, weight loss, diarrehea, frequent bowl movements... The vbest would be to get a endoscopy and colonoscopy to get a definate diagnosis. Do not let this issue go undiagnosed and untreated.

could be IBS (irritable bowel symdrome)

i have had crohns for 8 years. not a fun disease. the best thing to do if ur reallllllly worried about it is see a gastroenterologist (sp?) and get a barium x-ray/scan or whatever they call it. and like mentioned above they can do a colonoscopy etc..

Is this the first time you have seen it? How long has it been? If this was an abrupt occurrence it could be a simple food allergy... Crohn's disease is a little extreme unless this is a persistent happening.

Extreme changes in diet, like you have said may be the culprit as well. If your stool has a liquid consistency the possibility may be lack of fiber, and water. Prilosec further disturbs things because protein digestion is somewhat hindered because it blocks some of the "pumps" in the stomach.

i have crohns and believe me you would know! sounds like ibs best to keep an eye on symptoms getting worse for sure but you dont know for sure until they look inside with the little camera, not very nice at all but best to be on safe side. when mine came on at age 30 i was going to toilet 15 to 20 times a day and passing water/mucas and a little blood ! not the sort of thing one is unsure about lol. good luck but dosent sound too serious at moment. rich

If your even slightly think CHRONS is a possibility I would see a doctor ASAP.
