DC: Can it be done sucessfully with keto diet, say 1,000 cal.above maint.

Hey guys. This is my first official post. When utilizing a DC type training can lower carb diets be used? I know that this goes against everything I have read about recommended DC diets. Would increasing intake of good fats and proteins compensate for the caloric totals missing by decreased carbs? I have also read numerous theories about the effects of DC on the CNS. Would recovery be compromised by the lack of carbs or could the increase of fats and proteins compensate for the difference?
 
A better question is why would you do a keto diet 1,000 calories over maintenance.

To bulk up.......3500 extra calories = 1 pound.......so in 1 week someone can gain 2 pounds of muscle..........:) The tricky part is what is maintenance? I say it is X(y) + body weight - actual starting weight-heaviest bench press weight+ calories burned in 1 hour of laying perfectly still..........with X being protein obviously and y being fat.

I remember one of my friends telling me that you told him to eat green apples & chicken breasts to get huge. I also appreciate your scientific formula for maintenace calories??? e=mc2. Lets say I did incorporate this theory with DC, could the fats and protein produce needed recovery and muscle gains. I generally feel better on keto type diet, even if above maintenance.

Well, if your friend is FATHEAD or Sadie or KM2000 or fourthgen then I am guilty as charged! I am a believer in some carbs...no matter what routine.......remember, this is also HEALTH BUILDING.... not just bodybuilding......dont be short sighted and miss out on the ultimate goal.

2. I don't know anyone that has made appreciable mass gains on a zero carb diet.

It works, I've seen it first hand! But your friend must have forgotten to dip his quarters of apple in olive oil, that's the only reason i can think of... :D

Isn't that the truth.....the main thing I have learned over the last 30 years of training is that genetics RULE.......if you micro manage things you will be depressed, confused, confounded, condundrumed, catskined, cathartic, and convalescent..........if that makes sense.

So true... been there. Now, I am much happier, healthier and overall have a much better outlook on life, but I still eat my chic and green apples dipped in olive oil;)
Davinci, I listen to guys like shelby, phil and phidias.. they will save you lots of wasted time and get you to point a --> b in the quickest and most importantly, healthiest way possible. Why not find a balance between macros that works better and fits your lifestyle?? I have never really understood using a keto diet to gain muscle as there are many more efficient ways to go about this whilst staying nice and lean.
 
DC plus 5500 calories still kicked my arse over a 2 month period....Keto and DC sounds like complete torture to me.

#1 is what my results have been. Fat loss and gaining strength with a refeed E5D. But I'm 1000 calories below maint, not over.
