Diet- quality or quanity?

Just kinda wondering if im alone on this. With the title i didnt mean eating alot of shit or a normal amount of good foods, actually almost the opposite.

When im dieting, and actually even when im not, my biggest problem is not getting to eat ENOUGH to satisfy me. I know alot of guys dieting miss certain foods that they cant eat that taste a certain way. With my i miss mass quanities of food. If i could eat 2 cups oats, 2 TBs natty PB, 2 slices of ezekiel bread, and 3 cups egg whites for breakfast without getting a budda belly (which i would cause thats waaaaaay over what i need) i most def would. But then i could easily turn around and say no thanks to ice cream, candy bars, cake ect. I just like the 'full' feeling, which i know alotta guys hate.

My buddy is polar opposite. Hed rather eat one candy bar then a shitload of oats with splenda or somethin (he doesnt cause he trains too, but thats what he would prefer).

Just wondering your guys opinions
 
Here is my take on this.

I would much rather eat more food and do slightly more cardio. I don't like to starve but I feel that if you are eating enough to stimulate your metablism, you are going to be hungry. Thats really what makes dieting more of a mental thing than anything else. You have to be strong and stay focused.
 
sorry if i was unclear. I guess its more like this- if it didnt effect your body differently at all, would you rather eat a little of something you consider to taste VERY good, or a SHITLOAD of something you think is ok? I fall into the latter part...

now I get it. and deffinately would rather just eat a ton. I hate feeling stuffed but I do enjoy eating. hence gaining weight is not a problem for me. its staying lean that I have to keep my focus on. but it seems to be getting better as of late.
 
yea i hear ya. I actually hate the 'stuffed' feeling, but im basically a glutton it seems and if given the chance, with no ramifications, id eat till i pop :p

The main thing i concentrate on while dieting is after im done eating, and still feel hungry, i know that 15 mins later when its settled a bit, ill feel a bit fuller. Just gotta be patient i guess. Oh, and eating stalks of celery nonstop helps too :D
 
I think many guys tend to "over diet" and lose more muscle mass than they need to in the fat burning process. If you feel like eating a cheeseburger once every 2 or 3 days then go for it, just increase your cardio. This 20 min here, 30 min there cardio bullshit just isn't enough for most people. Try going 90 min 3x/wk instead of 30 or 40 min ed. My results got much more dramatic doing so.
 
yea i agree with you on the cardio. Im doin 45 mins b4 work (which means i gotta start at 4 45 am :( ) and half hr after my workout now 6 days a week. And i agree with the cheat meal at the early stages of the diet but once you hit like 7 or 8 weeks out, although everybodys diff obviously, i cut out the shitty cheats. Seein as im 5 weeks out and imo not gonna make the conditioning i was hoping, thats def not an option :p

But the cheeseburger is my pt in this thread. Personally, id rather eat alotta oats with honey and PB instead. Plus id have a hard time stopping a one little Cheeseburger :D Its all mental...

I put in the carbs whenever my body feels like it needs to be refueled to get me by a few more days. What I usually do is grab a couple 1/3 lb Hardee's thickburgers and have them for dinner. No french fries, no soda, just the burgers. Then no more carbs the rest of the evening, just pound water. I'll wake up the next day fuller and usually looking a little better. Another good way for me to fill back out and satisfy hunger is with white potatoes. All this talk about sweet potatoes, but I prefer white ones as I think I look harder and grainier eating them. Every few days maybe try eating 4 or 5 throughout the day. It helps my look for sure, even close to a show.
 
Yes, I would rather eat quality than quaintity. My girlfriend is a chef and we are all about quality. I think McDs sucks.

hahahaha yeah my buddy up north is the same way. His wife, who also competes, is a chef as well, and he is AAALLLLL about the quality. For instance, my show is up where he lives and he wanted to take me to some super fancy resturant afterwards and i just said 'dude, i just want some fruit and some good pizza'.

Funny how different everybody is. To be honest though, id rather be like you. Picky but not concerned about eating alot.

LOL, yeah I won't even touch a pizza unless it comes from a reall good place.
Or sometimes we buy fresh dough and make our own pizza.We are very snobby when it comes to food. But we have 2 fridges and 2 freezers full of food. In fact, my house is stocked with more food than most restaurants!
 
wow sounds like you got it made brotha! Haha im at costco every wensday buyin the chicken ect i need for the week. Extra stuff that 'tastes good' just usually isnt in the budget. More power to ya if you can be picky. thats awesome. Oh, and thanks for mentioning pizza.....im drooling all over myself...
 
quality, because canned tuna and plain chicken get very very very old quick
