I was drinking distilled water for some time now to avoid fluoride.

Anyways, I found out drinking distilled water can reduce nutrients and minerals in your body, is this true ? I learned that i can only drink it 1 gallon per week and no more than that.

and what would be a good drinking brand water to drink that's not too expensive ?

Maybe someone can bring some light to this topic.

oh yeah, I really don't like the taste of zephyrhills spring water so I hope i don't have to go back to that.

lol tap water? :)

The nutrients in ...lets say bottled water are insignificant .
Continue to drink the distilled to avoid all sorts of maladies.

Thanks for the info

I also recently encountered some useful info on the link below. I just want to be clear, I'm not trying to find water with the most nutrients and minerals, but I'm trying to avoid drinking water that will leach minerals from my body.

A friend from the gym was telling me, Drinking distilled water (Only) will make you lose minerals and nutrients from your body. I don't believe its true!

Distilled Water And Health Discussion

this is not true at all, its bro-lore. Dr. Michael Colgan addressed this in his 1993 book, Optimum Sports Nutrition. the idea of distilled water leeching minerals and nutrients is pure nonsense. when you drink water, it mixes with everything else in your stomach and duodenum at the same time. even if it did 'absorb' something, its still in your body!!!!! you would just absorb it back out. of course none of that even occurs. drink as much distilled water as you wish and avoid bro-lore!

Tap water for me through a Brita filter.

Does a Brita remove flouride?

Ive always heard distilled is better cause your not getting as much bullshit in the water

Tap water for me through a Brita filter.

Does a Brita remove flouride?

brita will not remove flouride. flouridated drinking water is made with one of the 3 following compounds: sodium fluoride, fluorosilicic acid, or sodium fluorosilicate. all of these readily mix with water forming a homogenous solution and are much too small to be removed with a brita filter. in fact there is no filter that will remove these.

distillation will remove them. distilled water is boiled and the steam is collected and condensed. the condensed water IS the distilled water. all of the crap remains behind in the boiled part.

Reverse osmosis will remove fluoride - like distillation. Reverse osmosis systems can be expensive, but they can be mounted under sink. The best are certified for AIDs patients and people with immune disorders. They take out harmful trace metals and minerals.

I think if you do some Googling, you will see this is the easiest way to get safe drinking water.

true this type of filtering will, i should have said membrane filtration in my above post

Little side note. They are pretty wasteful. So if water is expensive in your area, get a high efficiency system. The one I use (for aquariums, but it's the exact same system as for drinking) gets 1 gallon of clean water for 3 gallons of waste water. In other words, you waste 3 gallons to make 1 gallon. Newer, better systems are a 1:1 ratio.

And for it to work properly, you need to have a good amount of water pressure as the system works on pressure. If you have low water pressure, you may need a booster pump. This isn't a problem in a majority of areas though. 40PSI is about the minimum I believer....could be 30PSI. 60+ is preferred.

And what sorts of maladies would you be referring to?

The kind of maladies avoided by the extraction of elements listed in a Kinetico ad. I not selling them; we've had one for 6 years. It is safer than bottled water. Reverse osmosis systems cost from $150 to $1800.

Great tasting water is now as close as your kitchen tap, and so is the peace of mind that you’re providing your family with the best quality water possible.
Kinetico systems significantly reduce unwanted substances such as lead, arsenic nitrate, MTBE, VOCs, cryptosporidium, chlorine, tastes, odors and even bacteria and viruses leaving you with only clean, great tasting water. And Kinetico water is dispensed directly from the tap so you can have it when you want it, 24 hours a day, for everything from drinking water and ice cubes to water used in your favorite recipes. Best of all, you won’t need to buy cumbersome bottles of water or mess with awkward filtration pitchers.

Kinetico Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System protects your water by using five separate protective stages: pre-filtration, reverse osmosis, storage tank with fresh water turnover, carbon filtration and a lead-free faucet.
Taste, odor, arsenic, lead, chlorine, organic compounds, dissolved solids, metals, cysts and nitrate are significantly reduced to produce high quality water.

I drink both, I avoid distilled when making coffee, just never tastes right.

Distilled water is boiled or stemmed water, so even if you drinking coffee or tea you are still drinking distilled water

You should mainly be drinking Distilled water because it is pH balanced! unlike most other water sources/types which are unbelievably acidic. As bodybuilders, given our typical nutrition requirements - we often times create very acidic environments in our body. Drinking alkaline/pH neutral water is a great way to improve this.

There's a new pitcher filtration system called Zero Water! It's the best tasting water to me so far!!

Uh no.

Distilled water is water made from the steam that is produced from boiling water. If I boil water on my stove and use it to make tea, guess what? It's still water. Everything (well anything that isn't given off during the heating process) still remains.

Your coffee maker doesn't work like distilling water either. Yes, it may produce steam, but that isn't the main source of water for your coffee. It heats the water and "sprays" it over the grounds.

And yes, I have had coffee and tea made with distilled water, it sucks. The minerals and such in tap water help give coffee a better taste. When I lived away from my home town, I couldn't make even a "decent" cup of coffee. Move home....ahhhhhhhh so much better!

I've hard this before and am curious to hear your thoughts on something thats been bothering me...

According to a physiology text book I have, the body keeps pH regulated in a pretty tight range(7.35-7.45). It claims that enzymes only function in a small range, and if the pH is below 6.8 or above 7.8, that is not compatible with life. It talks about many ways the body regulates pH.

I remember when i was younger, I ate probably 4 pickles at the movie theater. Then i puked. I think this was because i was so acidic, and to lower my acidity, my body expelled alot of acid found in my stomach to lower my hydrogen ion concentration.

So on one hand i think the body does keep pH in check (the book talks about how it does this using different ways such as ventilation and renal compensations, and some other ways)

But on the other hand I cant believe that someone who eats an all acidic diet could possibly be healthy.

What do you think? why does the pH or food/water matter if, when pH is going to raise, the body quickly compensates to keep it at a particular level?
