Elbow Bursitis

I am pretty sure I have elbow bursitis. It's been getting worse and worse over the last few months. Anyone with any experience? Obviously I am icing but are there so additional options...besides rest. ;)

rest, ice, antiinflammatories, pain meds if it gets too bad, sometimes cortisone injections. if the bursa is infected though it should be drained by a doctor and the bursal fluid sent to a lab to find the microbes causing the infection. then antibiotics, and most of the time it will need to be drained again.

knowing you i seriously doubt this has anything to do with an infection and is just a result of lots of heavy ass lifting. so...ice it, rest it, and quite being such a hardcore badass.:)

Rest? ARE YOU INSANE? I am closing in on the 80 lb dumbells for dumbell skullcrushers. I would much rather hear the tearing of my tendons.

As the freak in Highlander said "Folks I got something to say. It's better to burn out than to fade away!"

I had 8 years of constant pain only thing that helped was not to do any movements that hurt, 6-7 months of that and carefull maint of paying attn. to your elbows.

I would ice, anti inflams, physical t, acupuncture nothing seemed to help me.

What motions/exercises cause the pain and where specifically do you feel the pain?

man, you ARE insane!:D just remember though, when you are on stage, the judges wont care about how much you can handle on dumbell skull crushers...;)

Yea and they never ask how much you can bench either!!:D :D Very wise statement! Good one flex, I hope more bros heed this messege!

Anything involving bending the elbow/tricep recruitment. Also just leaning on my elbow hurts. It hurts at some points when I rest my head with my arms overhead at night. I assume this is the bursa sack being compressed more. Ice does help briefly.

For the most part benching isnt bothering it too much.

That was my only hope for placing in a show. DAMN!:(

Yep, have had that problem for over a decade on both arms intermittently. I haven't done skull crushers since and have learned what exercises I can and can't do for triceps. I would try to identify the different exercises that you find aggravate your condition and find a substitute that does not aggravate things; at least for a while until the inflammation is under control.

Active Release Techniques with a lidocaine/cortisone injection

Before workout TK/Reh Band Elbow sleeves with a liniment applied to the arm.

Also get a pair of mini bands and hook them to the top of the power rack. Do 100 reps of press downs. I would do this several days per week.

As far as liniment I like the pink lotion that elitefts sells.

I forgot to mention one exercise I think you may greatly benefit from is board presses. You can work up to some heavy poundages here and not tare your elbows up like extensions seem to do.

Shawn! I'm ashamed of you! lol. You need to lay off any movement that aggravates the elbows! It is not worth pushing through the pain to get to your 80lb. db skulls!

I know! It happened to me. When I was doing heavy (hey, heavy for me! lol!) db overhead extensions (got up to 60 #) and ez skulls (70-80#) is when I taxed out on my elbow. It couldn't handle it anymore. It got to a point like you, that even leaning on it would shoot me to the ceiling. I had to take complete rest from doing those 2 movements for close to 8 months. I relied on close grip bench, pushdowns and kickbacks during this time.

Please be cautious!

Been icing. Like normal BUT tomorrow I will just do narrow grips for triceps. :) Maybe some 100 rep set of pushdowns.;) j/k

I would give euflexxa a shot. Its FDA approved for the knees but you can probably find a doc that will inject into the elbows.

Hey don't knock the 100 rep push downs. I find it great for recovery and flushing the area with blood and nutrients. Its a great little tip I learned from power lifters. I use #1 bands sold by our board sponsor APT http://www.prowriststraps.com/inc/sdetail/27414.
