i was scanned for kidney thought i may have stones didnt thank god but in lookin they realized i have an enourmously enlarged heart i am 255 7% when i was scanned mind you but is it a big deal to have this monster heart you think they also saw things in my blood work major muscle breakdown which is only see this in big crack heads or crystal meth addicts they were amazed and didnt understand why i had just a large amount of muscle breakdown. do you think its cause i have a very fats metabloism and low bodyfat i cant get it over 8% and my meals consist of 100g. carbs 90 g. protian and not sure fat is always up and down 6-7 mealsa day i take a couple grams of gear with gh insulin and igf on top of it all i just dont understand the large amount of muscle breakdown and do you think the enlarged heart is a big deal pls this is somethin i hope only someone with real knowledge will reply

As far as your enlarged heart, what has your blood pressure history been like? A couple of grams of gear in what period of time? A week???? How much hgh you taking?

bro.... a few grams??? ....are you saying you take that amount in a week? Or a month?

i take a few grams a week my body seems to love it i go see the doctor and he says your body is doin great up until this heart prob
but i mean my body was naturally 140 6ft 6% i get up to close to 260 never above 8% yah i pull out a few trick to get the job done. i am sure alot of ppl say that is a waste your body doesnt absorb that much well mine sure does and it loves it and i honestly go get checked all the time my health is great except this heart thing. but all honesty my body doubled muscular size you would figure it should be normal to double the heart to wouldnt you

bro... In my book, a few grams of gear a week is just an astronomical amount. I am not going to sugar coat this but an enormously enlarged heart is not a good thing. It can be serious. Obviously this is a matter for your doctors.

i have heard of many top guys using up to 10 grams a week thats how it goes this isnt secound third hand info eigher alot of these guys go for it. i am not trying to justify what i am doing but this is a destructive sport anyone whos says otherwise is kiddin himself i can accept that i will do my best to be as heathly about it as possible but thats the name of the game. for me i gotta pull out some tricks cause i have such a fast metabolism its crazy

Bulldog21 and I know somebody who had the same problem. He had to quit bodybuilding all together and get his weight down. He used to be HUGE and won several shows. Now he looks more athletically built.

Bodybuilding with drugs is probably not an option for you. Time to go natty. Live long. It's not worth it.

I'm personally 50/50 on doing the Team Universe in a year or two. The legal and physical risks are just piling up for a lot of people at this point.

i know another freak that was on the pro scene fairly recently that "supposedly" had to retire do to this.

i just had my ekg and all that stuff done this morning.........i am healthy:)

hippie.. curious as to what your physician said about this. this is very very serious

The muscle breakdown is probably due in large part to your weight training. Try to take at least three days off from weight training before your blood work to minimize potential pseudo-abnormalities.

Enlarged heart can mean many different things. If there is Left Ventricular Hypertrophy, the level of enlargement will play a huge role.
I'm assuming that is the case as that is pretty standard in weight trainers.

A LV thickness at the upper-limits of normal is "technically" an enlarged heart, but is generally considered an "athletes heart" and poses no major threat. (at least any level of threat that isn't outweighed by the benefits that exercise provides).

LV thickness nearing 2.0 cm, and/or disproportionate septal wall thickening is more dangerous. They would have likely told you that you had HOCM/IHSS if that was the case.

If it is an "enlarged heart" from some form of non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, that will be something that you'll need to take care of. That is probably less likely in your situation, unless you've had some major diastolic dysfunction and/or major blood pressure problems for a number of years.

An enlarged heart can increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias. The electrical conduction that contacts your heart can be more prone to forms of rapid heart rates when the ventrical is thickened.

Anytime ANYONE gets and abnormal reading from their physician, they need to ask for specifics regarding the situation. Dr.'s often take for granted what they know and what the patient knows. Many Dr.'s also seem to feel that reporting abnormalities without distinguishing the level of severity may "scare the patient straight."

A good physician will talk to you about your specific readings and work with you as a potential unique case. Research physicians are usually in that position for a reason....they're intelligent and motivated.

What kind of procedure did you have to determine you have a large heart?(i am an echo-tech thats why im asking)-now,also did the cardiologist said it was enlarged(meaning dialated),or enlarged(meaning thick walls/myocardium or in easier words-left ventricular hypertrophy)?
Also, did you have an echo before this one?and when?(if you did).if you didnt, then you might have had it the whole time, there is realy not a way to tell.the most important thing to remember is that bodybuilders/weight-lifters have always had thick heart walls(left-ventricular-hypertrophy),versus runners or long distance cyclists that have very thin walls and a very low heart-rate.also,what is your resting blood-pressure and heart-rate?

well to be honest i was just getting scanned for my kidneys when they noticed the heart thing it was in the emergency, so i dont know about the states but here in canada emegency room doctors dont know a great deal about alot of these tyrp of things they are usually rookie doctors they told me it was a concern i should really look into. this is all some what very recent. but i talked to my trainer (been bodybuilding for 20 years one of the top competitive trainers around) he told me he has the same problem and his doctor says its normal for a huge man with double the muscle to have an enlarged heart. not to say i am releying on his word i am in the process of getting the results and takin them to a proper specialist. till i conclude anything. my blood pressure has always been fine it gets a litte bit high but thats caus ethe gear i take but considering that its still low i dont know what it is.

thank god for canadian medical thats all i gotta say

Not saying you shouldn't have it checked out, but a large heart is pretty common among athletes. e.g. cyclists have huge hearts but it doesn't seem to bother them

on the subject of this, Google Steve Redgrave the british olympic rower. He had some problems when he retired due to the size of his heart from constant exercise.

I had quite an enlarged heart as well as heart failure. In and of itself depending on the level of enlargement, it can be benign or problematic. A lot of athletes infact have slightly enlarged hearts.

An enlarged heart can be due to a weakened heart. It tries to pump is too weak, and the blood actually "stretches" it out. This can be due to blood pressure, or another common thing for steroid users "thick" blood. I take an adult aspirin each day, no blood thinners yet. BTW it would be interesting which proteins/enzymes/markers they found. Those levels were the first thing they tested for in the ER and what put me in the Cardiac Care Unit in minutes. Stress/Injury to the heart leaves a trail in your bloody.

I believe, depending on the level of enlargement, an stress test, ekg, and or echocardiogram can help pinpoint the issue or allay your fears/concerns. It is something I wish I had addressed earlier. BTW I was 265 and higher body fat percentage when it happened to me.

My heart is now in the high range of "normal" and my function is in the low range of "normal" after one year. I personally would go get checked a little more thoroughly. This is not a little gyno, this is your life pump.

A.H.: Can you get a couple of your report and post it here?

Steele, I think the most recommended regime is one "baby" aspirin which should be in the 82 mg range. Coated or uncoated? I guess for some there may be less discomfort in the coated versions. I personally take an adult aspirin, non time released. I believe it is in the 325-375 mg range. The last studies I read seemed to indicate that there was no additional benefit above the baby aspirin size, but this is what the cardiologist recommened.

Pekkerwood

Aspirin only reduces clotting it doesn't thin the blood per se, nothing reduces red cell mass but phlebotomy's. although the aspirin doesn't hurt it's not a fix all.

Pekkerwood what's your prognosis for recovery?

A Hippie get a second opinion from a cardiologist if you can to rule out all weaknesses with the heart if you can.
