I had a very good friend the early 80s die of a massive heart attack after a show. He was only 26 and doing Lasix.

True.. but he could have been doing what many do.. enter a show.. mistime his peak .. or just not in condition.. panic.. and try and make up the issue with excessive measures..

Damn that’s a shame!!! Soooo young. That was the best time in my life from my mid-20’s’s to late 30’s! Hopefully this can be a wake up call to some… It won’t for everyone, but maybe some… RIP

That is called Potenay and diuretics the whole week... its not uncommon to see guys using 10mls of potenay. The guy i work for was his first coach (not the current)

would be good for IFBB/NPC staff to know CPR.. cant tell you how many times ive had to use it at the clinic while the NARCAN works its way into the system

No, but no bodybuilder is doing themselves any favors by not screening and being behind so pushing diuretics hard in an attempt to offset (no judgment). If you’re going to do it IMO you should at least fully know where your body is at.

There are paramedics present and backstage at every bodybuilding show in the NPC. Outlining them and where they will be is part of the athletes meeting.

It’s the hotel rooms where most of this stuff goes down sadly.

I wonder if most of these places have AED's? Many of these venues are schools so those all should but wonder if some of these other venues do? All these shows absolutely should. I realize survival from cardiac arrest even with AED present at the hospital, isn't great, but it is tool that should be available.

hyper/hypokalemia - which would result from excessive diuretic use is not shockable (asystole)
