I've been on a strict diet and cardio regimen for almost 4 weeks now and lost maybe 4 lb which I always seemed to fluctuate. I was told the reason I'm not losing weight could be due to low thyroid or low test. I was told this by my trainer. This actually brought me down and made me feel like there was no hope. I haven't cheated, busted my ass and still see no significant changes. I'm going to get blood tests done again to double check but last time it was all normal around 5 months ago. I know he's a good trainer and very busy so if you do happen to read this, it isn't meant to be negative towards you.

I'm on to week 4 and hopefully things look up.

Good idea to get blood tests~ Just to know where you stand.

I'm not doubting him and it was just a thought he had but how much can levels change from 5months ago. Either way I'm going to get it done next week

It took me about 4 weeks for my body to adjust to my diet and exercise program. Before those 4 weeks, the gains/losses were minimal in my eyes but after 4 weeks it seems to have kicked into a higher gear.

He is guessing or he knows from past tests? Are you doing everything he tells you? Do you have a history of low thyroid and low test levels?

That's what I'm hoping for.

No matter what the tests say just keep at it. Remember why your doing this. It is easy to get discouraged especially when your not seeing results, I have been through it. No one ever said this shit would be easy! Keep ya head up!

Rule #3-Use your mirror as your determining factor not your bathroom scale! Loosing BF+Gaining Muscle=Discouraged scale numbers

Remember mate, Rome wasnt build within a day, so please be patience and hang in there. Phil is correct. Stop comparing yourself to others because no 2 people on Earth is the same. If you havent train for a long time, dont expect results overnight, it takes time and your body to adjust. Good Luck!

Start thinking in terms of 12 week blocks. Set your goals ("I want to drop 2% BF" or whatever) as a 12 week goal. Setup your plan, with your trainer. Follow the plan. Do not deviate. Do not let anything distract you from your success at 12 weeks.

I have a friend who starts a new program plan every 4 weeks when the old one didn't work. He's been doing this for over a year now, and has made zero progress.

OTOH, I'm working with an athlete who over the last year has dropped 25lbs of bodyfat, going from 140 to 115lb and maintaining that BW with little effort. Her athletic performance is through the roof. We only tracked her progress at 10-12 week intervals, and she learned to ignore the short-term flucuations.

If my plan is not working after the first week............there is a problem. I am sure SOMETHING has changed......it has to.

It was just a thought he had. I have no history of either and yes I do everything to the "T" in the diet.

I don't compare myself to other people or there results. I only go by my own and see others for inspiration.

I weighed 30lb more then what I am now 6 months ago and lost an average of 2-3 lbs a week from changing my diet up. I was always told that after a month of not seeing result you need to switch things up otherwise you end up being counter productive. I mean diet is always the major factor in losing weight but the cals in and cals out has always had me baffled because technically as a #1 rule that been said millions of times is "if you burn more then you eat, you lose" but that just isn't the case for some. So many variables.

BINGO!

Did you say you've already lost 30lbs in the past 6 months?

yes, but honestly that weight was easily dropped. Not even on the strictest diet but I often switched my diet up if I started to plateau. I'm off to do cardio now but thanks guys for all the comments and advise so far.

1. Never compare yourself to other clients.
2. If you compare yourself to other clients, see 1.

lol made me laugh :)

Dude seriously go get some blood work done. Most trainers in reality know very very little. I will never take what a trainer says seriously unless they have personal experience and some real credentials to back up what they say. Your average 24 hour fitness 160lb trainer doesn't have a clue.

Max, how old are you? It could very well be that your thyroids are not performing as they should and your test levels may be down.

Another problem is it seems you are getting depressed which will not help in your weight lost. You need to stay focused and get aggressive in your training.

Now if your trainer knows that you are no longer losing weight from what he has instructed you to do and has not made any adjustments, then I would recommend finding another trainer, sorry but this is the truth. When I train people I constantly have to watch over my trainees as each person is different and tweaking and changes have to be made to get the to their goals.

Couple thoughts

1. I think you are young
2. You have unrealistic expectations after seeing before and after pics of the trainers best clients.
3. You are new to the sport..........unsure of a lot of basic items........we spoke and you had never heard of LBAs.......educate yourself and do not leave that up to the trainer...........he is a trainer.......unless he charges for education.

No argument from me.

If my plan is not working after the first week............there is a problem. I am sure SOMETHING has changed......it has to.

I was trying to focus more on the trainee's perception of progress, not the progress. I think for some, especially beginners, it can be difficult to honestly see change in a short period of time. So the program might be working just fine, but we don't allow ourselves to see that.

I'm guilty of that for sure.
