But, you usually get what you pay for.
Here's what I'm looking for - trying to be a smart shopper (along with reason)
1) 500:1 Contrast Ratio - at a MINIMUM (800:1 is better)
2) 16ms Refresh Rate OR LESS. This is very important as it is how fast your screen refreshes. 24ms would be an absolute minimum. If it's a higher value, you can get "ghosting" from either video or games. An LCD "IS SUPPOSE TO BE" an upgrade isn't it?
3) DVI Digital Link Input Video Signal - for true digital (not analog) input. Your video card MUST have a DVI output!
4) Pixel Pitch in mm: I'd like to find something in the 0.22x to 0.24x range like you see in high quality CRT monitors. I'd get no higher than 0.26x for a 19" (that's the size I'm looking for). I see 0.29x and larger all the time. This has to do with image resolution.
5) Trying to find all these features in a monitor for under $350. Have found "most" of them in LCD's on sale for around $390. I'm not in any big hurry and when I'm really ready, I'm sure they'll be down to that price.
