Does drinking ice water burn calories?

Let's figure out exactly what you're burning when you drink a 16-ounce (0.5 liter) glass of ice water:

The temperature of ice water can be estimated at zero degrees Celsius.
Body temperature can be estimated at 37 degrees Celsius.
It takes 1 calorie to raise 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius.
There are 473.18 grams in 16 fluid ounces of water.
So in the case of a 16-ounce glass of ice water, your body must raise the temperature of 473.18 grams of water from zero to 37 degrees C. In doing so, your body burns 17,508 calories. But that's calories with a little "c." Your body only burns 17.5 Calories..

I know Emeric says cold water messes digestion of shakes.. So drink your ice water between meals..

If you drank a gallon of ice water a day.. Thats an additional 132.3 calories..

For sure it makes your body burn more calories, your body has to maintain its temp...

I really don't think this will be an effective dieting strategy

you might as well just take a bunch of cold showers

but if you do this, keep us posted

Ice water stays around 32 degrees. At work that's how we check new thermometers

Not sure, this is a little hear say, a friend (college basketball player) once told me, his coach told him, to drink lukewarm water. Only reason being is ice cold will kill brain cells? Sounds a little assanign to me but maybe theres some truth to it.

actually read an article where that my be one of our downfalls being a westrn nation is drinking cold drinks with out meals. the stomach becomes cold which in turn constricts effecting break and absorption. looking at the more thinner eastern countries who drink "warm tea" with their meals..logical yes?

That does sound pretty ridiculous.. It's along the lines of something that another person once told me - that not chewing your food thoroughly enough was really bad for your heart.

heh that reminds me I was watching something on tv and they asked the oldest woman in the world , a japanese lady in her 100's what the best tip for living a long life. She said chew your food thoroughly.

Well.. There was a scientist in the early 1900's who swore by chewing your food very thoroughly.. He said for every bite, you have to chew 100 times.. Pretty extreme.. They found that chewing for this long drastically reduces the fiber content of your food and that alot of people using this technique were prone to upset stomachs...
