I was squatting yesterday and i think i fucked my back up. Im lookin for experienced opinions, tell me what you think.

I usuially hit 405 for a good 5-6 DEEP reps (im talkin sitting on my fuckin hams). Posted a question on DCs board and he suggested i lower it slower and pause for a split second at the bottom. DAMN did that make a difference(felt so much better on the muscle during warmup sets also). In short, i started failing around rep 4 and guess what, spotter didnt do jack shit! I started leaning foward cause i couldnt help it, finally got it up, racked it, sharp pain in my lower back. 3 guys ran over cuase they saw it n asked if i was ok. All my spotter could say was SORRY! I was pissed. My back was tight all last night and i could barely sleep. Couldnt find a position where it didnt hurt, finally it went away slightly n i fell asleep. Today its still bothering me no matter what i do. Walking, sitting, etc. Only thing that helps is improvising a lordodic(sp?) support in my lower back. Its not KILLING me today, but it hurts. Im thinkin if i go easy on it for a while, itl prolly just go away. Feels spinal, not muscular pain. I know what a sore lower back feels like from deadlifts, this aint it. What do you all think?

What do we think? Your spotter is a dick!
Be more selective in your spotters-I am!
Hindsight now-hope you heel up quick!

You might want to get an adjustment from a reputable chiropractor, and not just a back cracker. If you said you think it's spinal then something may have moved and put pressure on a nerve. Ibuprophen might help if it's muscular but in your case it may only mask the real problem. I would have it looked at if the pain doesn't subside in a few days.

I WOULD ECHO WHAT JONNYEL SAID...

I ONLY HAVE HAD ONE BACK DING....I COULDN'T EVEN TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND I LOOKED 'CROOKED' IN THE MIRROR STANDING FACE TO IT. NASTY.....I WENT AND GOT AN ADJUSTMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE (38) AND BAM...I COULD BREATH AND WALK DOWN THE STAIRS WITHOUT HANGING ONTO THE RAIL. ONE VISIT....END OF STORY.

AND WHEN YOU CAN....<AS MIKES SAID> KICK YOUR SPOTTER IN THE NUTS...THEN TELL HIM "SORRY"....:D

I ran into the same problem about 6 months ago. My squats were getting up there in weight around 495 for 4-6 reps and I moved sightly wrong one time and CRACK just like that I strained my spine. So what I do now is squats last so the weight isnt as high but you still get a good pump, also to make it harder the movement is done on a 3 count, 3 seconds up 3 down ass to the grass.

i know some people don't like squats on the smith machine but I think its alot safer. and i don't have the back pain.

When you starting getting near failure and keep pushing, its almost impossible for me to not start leaning forward and using bad form.

On the smith i feel alot more stable and am able to keep better form and feel alot safer.

I aslo like it in that i can adjust my stance better so that i'm hitting more of my quads than ass.

you will be fine

just rolled the ole back I bet, sleep and hot baths work for me. I dont know if I would go so deep as to be sitting on the hams. Your knees will suffer sooner or later. I know they work but at 37yrs old, I go about parallel

I agree with JB. At age 45 I go deep maybe 1x month.

Agreed with range of motion BUT...

Im tryin to pack on as much development and mass as possible. Im young, tryin to get the size at this stage. My knees handle it fine right now, so im not worried. I wont be squattin this deep forever, but at this point, its the only time i actually feel my sweep incorporated greatly.

Yea - you're young but when you blow out a knee and can't do squats, then you'll wish you listened. There's been PLENTY of young bucks that have done this doing DEEP squats. My neighbor won the HW class in the state's largest contest (he's in his mid 20's), then blew out a knee doin' deep squats. He's only gone downhill since.

hmm even if i use good form? Iv recently stopped bouncing out of the bottom position. I take it slow and controlled, like 2 seconds down, hold bottom position for split second, then power up. I mean, i NEVER feel my sweep worked unless i do this. When i do this, i actually get a pump in my sweep for the first time in my life. Unless completly necessary, id like to continue on with this.

back

you problably pinched a nerve in your lumbar area, id say give squatts a 1 week lay off.
