Sitting here watching the outdoorHD channel and getting the urge to take a trip for some whitetail, elk, bear hunting.

Any of you ever take trips? My dream trip would be Alaska to hunt bear, fish for salmon and halibut.

When I was a young man I went on a Wild Boar hunting trip. Bagged one on the first day. My dad got me a sweet 243 Winchester to hunt with. Never used it again to hunt with. I would be more interested in a major fishing trip on a very large lake. Not a big fan of the ocean and all the movement if you know what I mean. Damn what am I 90?

I went on a bear hunt in Maine a couple years back. It was a great time and would love to do it again, although I'd really like to go to Canada for the next one.

Yeah, a Hailbut trip would be blast.

They've got white tail the size of small horses where I'm from in South East Kansas. You just come on up and save your money. I'll show you where they are.

Be glad to take you up on that. You have property?

where in Maine?

Oxbow, north of Bangor.
It was warmer than expected, ate like a king, met a lot of good people, oh, and shot a nice bear.

I worked quite a few years packing for hunting outfitters in Wyoming around the Jackson Hole area. Elk, mulies, moose & bear. I never guided but lead the pack strings of mules in and out of camp or packing out the elk that hunters got or wrangling the horses and mules. I learned a lot about the hunting business and what it takes to get the game you are going after.

Elk is on my bucket list.

Well I am looking at traveling this winter for a hunt. I am leaning toward a whitetail or an elk hunt.

I've been on a few guided hunts , now days I'd rather spend the extra money on more days in the field hunting pubic lands. I'd like to take another trip for a big whitetail one day , I got to hunt the Milk River area of Montana once for 3 days and it was amazing never got within bow range of anything repectible though.

I need to replace a huge bull I killed several years ago , I lost the mount during hurricane Katrina.

I enjoy taking my kids more than anything though.

the only thing I realy want to try before I die is a Dall's sheep hunt

Where at in Katrina? Mississippi or New Orleans? Sorry lol I just got 9 ft of water from that wicked hurricane. Didn't think anyone on the board was from the Coast.

The mount was in my parents home 2 block off the beach in Pass Christian , MS , I was in Kiln MS for the storm. The Pass got about 28 feet of storm surge , the neighborhood my folks were is was wipped clean off the map. My home is in Slidell , LA about 20 miles north of New Orleans , I got about 4 feet here.

Kansas is one of the best kept secrets in deer hunting but the words getting out fast , its definatly on my list of places to consider if I ever hit the loto!!

I've geared myself more to archery hunting lately as I haven't been out of state hunting in a few years but being an archery hunter has its bonuses , the seasons are generaly aot earlier in the year so the weather plays a big factor both good and bad , I've been on Elk hunts where it was 85 degs and nothing was moving ,but they're are not nearly as many people willing to drop their money on a bow hunt so the chances of hunting a coveted area like Arizona for Elk is ALOT better , thats where I killed my bull and I put in for the same areas for 3 years before I was drawn. They say the chances of getting an out of state rifle tage for Arizona Elk are less than hitting the powerball lottery. ALSO , check into hunting some reservations , they are allowed to prettymuch set their seasons their and getting a tag can bea alot easier if your willing to pay for it.

Guided ELK hunt in Colorado planned for this Fall.
Figure the first time I hunt something I will pay the money for the guides experience.
Hope to not just shoot a bull, but learn something.

Here's my wifes cousin with one from Kansas. Deer here are grossly over populated.

I was gonna say that Montana has some of the biggest mule deer and other animals Ive ever seen. Actually saw a grizzly right on the side of the road.

Montana does have some studs , both Muley and Whitetails , they have some big elk also , from what I've seen first hand and learned from guys that have been hunting elk for decades is that Arizona has a better chance for a big bull than other states , they just have a longer growing season down their and less harsh winters.
the biggest elk I have seen in the wild bar none was in the Selway Mtns or Idaho , two guides and myself stalked him for 3 days and could never get any closer than about 1000yds and without a lazer rangefinder to accuratly rage him I wasen't comfortable taking a shot that far and risking crippling him. He was a manster that was a 8x9 with thick long tines and his body was noticably bigger that the others around him , all three of us guessed his score in the mid 400's!!!
