It seems that whenever I see the top nutrtionists in bodybuilding, nobody ever mentions where they went to school or if they have a degree. Not that a piece of paper makes them an expert by any means, but Ive allways wondered where the base for some of their knowledge came from. I believe Chris Aceto has a B.S. in ES. Years and years of hands on and personal experience is very helpful, but I wonder if many of them actually do hold degrees in biology, human nutrition, or kinesiology.

It would probably help to have a degree, but the real life experience is more invaluable. At least they should have a PT cert. But think about your average Doctor. They dont know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to BBing science, compared to most of us with our extensive experience and informal research.

A degree doesn't mean much in real world bodybuilding. Look at Duchaine. He had a teaching degree & he was THE guru. Then look at Author L Rea who claims to be an actual medical doctor & he's a bozo with no real world results.

Aceto trained at the same gym I did back in the day...........he has a degree in nutrition from Springfield College in Mass., and learned a lot from Mr. America Jeff King, who trained there also, besides being a national level competitor himself.

Experience is far more important IMO,but in Aceto`s case,he has the book knowledge as well!!

I'll have to take up for L Rey a little bit on this one..

Hes no Ronnie Coleman for sure but ever see his before training pics..The dude had no genetics..He was a skinny ectomorph and did quite well with the sorry body he was dealt..

Also Dan Duchaine died an early death which doesnt equal genius in my eyes, more like some ignorance going on up there about when to call it quits on the drug abuse..

Dan would be alive today if he hadnt misused and abused anabolic substances IMO...

Did you know Dan D?

Those are pretty harsh staements. I would not point too many fingers at him, you were just recently asking us on here how not to lose your arm due to an infection from a shot. As far as me not contributing much in your opinion, me telling you to go to the doctor should count for something.

You obviously know nothing of Dan or ARL. Dan didn't die of substance abuse. He had cystic fibrosis & did more to advance bodybuilding than anyone before or after him. RIP Dan!!!

ALR is a text book guru. His theories are all text book & research paper based & make no sense in real life. I've seen him in real life & he's a bloated water bag. Being a good guru doesn't have anything to do with how big you can get. Look at it this way, the guy is almost 50 & he's virtually unknown & was fired recently from his MD column. He has no track record for ANYTHING & has never helped any name bodybuilders. He wrote 2 books that are riddled with mistakes & well, that's about it. Comparing Duchaine & ALR is like comparing Ronnie Coleman to Jocelyn Pelliter.

This statement equals the ignorance of people spouting off about steroids who really know nothing about them. Obviously you know nothings about Dan yet have made some idiotic, unfounded statements about him.

Dan had a completely congenital contidion that had nothing to do with steroids.

His ideas and theories with revolutionary at a time when there was very little
enlightened thinking in the field of performance enhancing drugs. He was not building upon other theories-his ideas were completely breakthrough.

You can take your foot out of your mouth anytime now...

Unless you actually knew the man.....

I dont know how anyone on here would actually know what caused his death. Unless If you were a person who hung with him or knew him pretty well then im sure you do know. I loved to read his articles. He was a very intelligent person. I truly dont think that the steroids killed him. I had met him before. I had a conversation with him about what to use for this and that. He was quite thin at the time. He told me he did a cycle once in a blue moon. So yes he had done some extreme stuff but the guy was not constantly "on".

You didnt have to know him (I used to talk to him weekly in the mid 80s)
to know what he died from. Its pretty well documented.

I have no idea who the man was but im curious what he did actually die from?

I think Dan was a Genius way ahead of his time and always a critical thinker. He had a different outlook and perspective and always questioned general thinking and logic and that is what set him apart. He was well-versed and understood chemical make-ups and receptor theories and actually invented many we use today. I know MIke_S and him were buddies and I wish I would have had the oppurtunity to pick his brain before he passed unfortunately it never happened. Mike could prob. tell us some great stories from the heyday. As far as cert's ect..... I think IMO that some formal coarses on general nutrition and nutritional science courses are very handy as they were a basic staple and foundation for myself. I also was a certified personal trainer with certs thrue ISSA,NFPT,ACMS. just my thoughts and the rest I believe is trial and error. wyldeone.
