Gym's Recycling Bodybuilders?

L

You know what I've noticed lately? I don't know why this is, but I've notice that my gym is recycling bodybuilders. I've been training at the same gym for the past 2 years now, and in 1-2 years I've noticed quite a few new guys in the gym and quite a few who have quit or left. I've got a few friends that have been there the entire time(well they work there.ha), but I see new bb'ers that are juicing and the guys I remember from last year who were hardcore have left or quit. A couple have moved to new gyms, which I've seen them at also, but there have been quite a few who have just quit. One friend of mine is just starting back after a year layoff(slipped a disc in his back). Another guy told me he got real into paintball for a year. I guess as people settle into their careers and families they spend less time in the gym. I noticed four new rather big kids in the gym today and three or four of my good friends from last year are gone. I really can't say anything, though, b/c I spent almost a year surfing 4-5 days a week. hahaha

It's really hard to understand what you are trying to say in this post.

I'll take a stab, most gyms have a handful of regulars, all of the others tend to come and go.

This is pretty much the way it is, has been and will continue to be.

Sorry about that Marshall. I guess what I'm trying to say is it amazes me how many of the hardcore bodybuilders at my gym come and go. Just wondering why that is. Burned out maybe?

MAYBE WHAT YOU THINK HARDCORE IS............REALLY ISNT HARDCORE AT ALL.........???

That's probably a good point!

240lb-280lb posers then. :)

I think hardcore gym goers take more time off than some of the people that go for other reasons. I have trained at this one gym for 13 years now...Always the same faces doing cardio and recreational lifters. Maybe a couple of dedicated lifters are still there but they are gone for the most part.

Thank you Enanthanator! This is exactly what I'm talking about. I think this sport can be really hard on a person's body at times with the "supplements" and intense training. I was thinking about the guys from my gym who competed last year on a state level and there is like half of those people now. Just an interesting observation is all I was trying to say.

Bodybuilding is a tough sport that takes 110% dedication. I'm sure you know this but when your bodybuilding it becomes your life. It's a 24/7 job. Some people burn themselves out, get lazy, or get injured. I know for myself over the years I've taken several long layoffs due to other lifes priorities like work and family or other interests. Bodybuilding is my heart so I always come back with new found drive.

Yeah,,,

I have taken many breaks in my lifting as well for family, schooling etc....most of the time out of necesesity not willfully. I love BB, but I must say when I look at some of my patients in the hospital and they basically beat the shit out of themselves with alcohol, or just eating poorly with high cholesterol etc....I wonder will that be me........Will I pay a price for my dabbling. I dont know. I just hope im in better shape in that area of my life when I get there.

Hey zeyphr's back!
Good to see you round these parts again!

I can't say about BB gyms, as until reciently I had a home gym. But, I've been involved in other sports for years and you see the same thing. 99.999% of the people lost are usually due to girls. They get p**** whipped and there life as a free man that can do things with out others approval is over.... Sad... Lost a good friend a couple months ago, use to train all the time, a woman took over his life.....

HOW DOES BODYWEIGHT EXPLAIN HOW "HARDCORE" SOMEONE IS?????....I DONT GET IT????......THERES A TON MORE 150 TO 200LB "HARDCORE" BODYBUILDERS THAN THE LATTER.......SOME OF THE MOST "HARDCORE" I KNOW ALL COMPETE UNDER 170

That's just not my experience at my gym. All of the guys at my gym who are competitive on a state level are 190lbs -250lbs on stage. Sure we have one little guys who is like 5'4" and 165-170lbs. hahaha I think we had 15 or 16 people last year who competed which is a pretty good roster of folks competing from one gym.
What your describing is a natty in my eyes...150-200lbs. I know the natty's can also be very hardcore, we just don't have many natty's(except myself), who have made bodybuilding their lifestyle. Eating clean, training consistently, and generally falling asleep and waking up thinking about bb'ing.
I know what your saying. That a 130lb guy can still be hardcore. I just don't have any at my gym. Maybe its a Texas thing? ;)
