and it brings up an interesting question. I have always felt that belonging to any Hall of Fame is of course the pinnacle for someone who competes in a sport. As great as an accomplishment like that is, I always felt that there is something extra about the first class. They are almost the mold setters if you will.
In Major League Baseball the first class was established 1936:
Cobb, Ty
Johnson, Walter
Mathewson, Christy
Ruth, Babe
Wagner, Honus
In the NFL establish 1963:
Sammy Baugh
Bert Bell
Joe Carr
Earl (Dutch) Clark
Harold (Red) Grange
George Halas
Mel Hein
Wilbur (Pete) Henry
Robert (Cal) Hubbard
Don Hutson
Earl (Curly) Lambeau
Tim Mara
George Preston Marshall
John (Blood) McNally
Bronko Nagurski
Ernie Nevers
Jim Thorpe
No aurguments with Football and Baseball. However in Pro Wrestling and Bodybuilding here are the initial classes. Missing from that first Pro Wrestling class is Hulk Hogan. Missing from that first bodybuilding class Lou Ferrigno and Franco Columbo.
Pro Wrestling established 2002:

Frank Gotch
George Hackenschmidt
Ed Lewis
Jim Londos
Buddy Rogers
Bruno Sammartino
Sky Low Low
Ricky Steamboat
