Every time i heat canned new england clam chowder (i mix tuna in) it gets watery and sucks! What am i doing wrong? Why wont it stay thick? Should i eat it cold?

I use a microwave

Try doing it on a stove. Are you thinning soup with any water or milk? Totally weird a microwave would do that

i avoid stove if possible. microwavable disposable dishes lol should i microwave w a lid on it?

A lid you would think would cause more condensation, which leads to more water. I'm going to buy a can and try it. The sodium from soup doesn't make u too bloated? Or not really an issue since it's off season?

Hell you eating clam chowder for? You must like it, I guess, no clams for me... plus soup is just boiled fat n carbs...i know you're deep off season, but?

Its about taste and simplicity for me. Soup + 2 cans tuna. Fast n simple n easy to eat. I also cannot get fat soo....

when the soup gets "thin", it is actually separating. Canned soup uses much more artificial thickeners vs real NE clam using roux (flour/butter). Does it do that if you don`t add the tuna? Maybe just add a few spoons of soup to tuna on the side for moisture and keep the bulk of it separate? It might just be the tuna splitting the soup.

Please just be an adult and use the stove also. You ever re-use a plastic tuperware in microwave? After awhile it will start to show the plastic melting, leaving pot marks, no doubt a little plastic ends up in your gut each time you do that. It takes just as long as microwave.

Yes, I can make a killer homemade NE clam soup also :D

Maybe nuke it without being covered so the water escapes. Add tuna after and let the hot soup warm the tuna and thicken. I'll try this next time I make a grocery run.

squeeze all the water you can out of the tuna as it is a moist meat any way.

Try adding the tuna in small amounts as you eat it. 2 Tins will hold a lot of additional water even when drained, thats why its diluting the soup.

Simple Fix

TP4U,

After you heat it in the micro, wisk in 1-2 Tbs of powdered Instant Potato.
It will thicken up nicely.

I used Campbell's Chunky Clam Chowder.

Fully drained my tuna (in water).

Half covered the soup and nuked as per insturctions, added the cold tuna, and let it sit for a few minutes.

It was nice and thick.

Ok, seriously this is brilliant. I make a gravy and couldn't find the right balance of thickness from normal thickeners. That^^ finally nailed it

Off topic I know, but I'm excited over it. Thanks.

You guys are awesome! All the info was helpful! Soup is perfect :)

there really is nothing this board cant figure out

It's been sorted but you could also add a little bit of corn flour to thicken soups up.
