help with training routine

For the last 2.5-3 months i have been on a 5 on 1 off split. About 12-14work sets for each muscle per week. I was thinking about going 4 on 1 off and hitting everything closer to twice per week, but cutting the workload in half for each muscle group per workout, so id only do 6-7 work sets per workout, twice a week so it totals up to be about the same. Does this sound like something that may work, since i have been doing everything once a week until now? And if so, should I cut the workload down in half or so, or should i keep it high and still hit it twice a week? Thanks for your help
 
How long are your workouts. What's your rep/weight scheme. Sounds like you're possibly doing too much each session.
 
well when i did 12-14 sets i would try and keep it to an hour or so. But now that its less than that, i dunno 45 minutes tops now. I usually stay in the 8-12 rep range, and every other workout or so I'll begin with a compound movement and go heavier for 4-6 reps just to switch it up. thanks xcel.
