I had Decompression surgery on my right shoulder for impengment syndrom on 12/05. How long should I wait until I get going in the gym. The PT suggest that I wait until week 6 but I am feeling so good and can't wait to get back. Any one had this surgery and can give me some feedback on my return time.

Thanks.......bigarms

From my exp.

Take all 6 weeks of time just to be safe. If you rest and start at 4 weeks its not like your going to build unheard of muscle in those 2 weeks. Just rest and recover. I always say (using your time frame) its always better to be out for 6 weeks than 6 months.

Take your time getting back into the gym and listen to your body. If you feel you are ready start back nice and easy. Good luck and let us know how it goes. The shoulder is a very complex joint and is very fragile... be careful.

Thanks, I am just itching to get back and going. I am in the gym and doing leg, abs, and cardio....but keep wanting to do more. Thanks for the advice, it's what I need to hear.

I believe I had the same thing done when they went into my right shoulder to reattach the infraspanutus - shave some bone off the acromium. Due to the fragility of reattaching a muscle to the bone, they wouldn't even let me move my arm for 6 weeks!! When I got it out of the sling, the shoulder WAS LOCKED UP! I couldn't even reach my mouth to brush my teeth (I'm right-handed). Needless to say, it took MONTHS for me to rehabilitate it.

After all was said and done, I ended up being able to far exceed my bench press efforts and gain more size after recovery!

Patience and CONSISTENCY young grasshopper :)
