How to treat tennis elbow?

Hello everyone! Happy New Year!!

Ok so I have a very bad case of tennis elbow. I have been icing twice a day and doing stretches everyday shown to me by my orthopedic surgeon friend of mine. I’m feeling better and better everyday but not ready to start lifting again because I’m fearful of injuring my self more and needing to take more time off from lifting. Luckily my diet is on key and still doing cardio I have not lost as much of my gains as expecting I would, but I’m missing the weights and want to heal up and get back into them. So any suggestions?

Thanks!:D

I used a elastic elbow brace and then put another one on top of that one to give it a really tight fit , i also used celebrex along with triple strength glucosamine and condrotin , seems to be working well and the pain has almost gone away completly.

just takes time

trust me... last year.. i suffered from this... both elbows... not at the same time... but pretty much one right after another

just have to stretch it good... i dropped how much weight i was doing... and stayed away from what i thought spurred mine... (curls... cambered bar... and straight)

i got one of those tennis elbow braces... and that seemed to help a little with the pain.. while at the gym.... but other than that.. ibuprophen.. and just take it a little easier in the gym

good luck... it'll work it's way out... just be patient

I would say before you workout, get that elbow warm...whether you put icy hot or something like on it or just some light movements to get the blood flow to that area.

Like vander stated, WRAP that bad boy tight...when people hurt their knees, they wear braces, wrap it up, and pay extra attention to it...do the same for your elbow...stay away from things that irritate it...take your GLUSCOS and other joint therapy stuff and it should heal in time...ahhh and last ICE that thing after every training session...20mins on 45mins to an hour off...then 20mins on even if yo did not train that area that day...you still used it enough to irritate it a little.

I have the same thing right now and haven't been working the biceps because that is were I notice it most. I also bought one of these braces http://www.nulifemedical.com/pc-131-69-armband.aspx and it seem to help alittle. Walgreens had them for $14. I am also looking into Deep Muscle Massage which is only $18 for 30mins at the local Massage College. I have iced it after workouts and taken it light on exercise that use it. I am also taking glucosamine/condrotin/MSM and naproxen, which is a anti-inflammatory and contain about 500mg of ibfrofen. As you can see, I really can't wait for this to go away...lol I wish the best of luck for both of us because this sucks... Cjay

I will start lifting again next week and will be wraping it as Vander and you suggest. I'll report back.

I picked those elastic braces up last night.

Tennis Elbow

I have experienced this same thing with my left elbow, it is very painful, however wearing a tennis elbow brace is the only thing really to somewhat help eleviate the pain, I even consulted with some of my relatives who are orthopaedic surgeons and MD's and they said that is about all you can do, there is no cure for it. also to do lots of stretching of the area and the wrist, because most of these injuries start with wrist injury first they said:cool:

I have the same problem, mostly in my right elbow. And it is painful. Wrappin ghelps a lot, plus I stopped doing all overhead presses and that seemed to also help. I mostly do pressdowns -- one arm, rope, etc. I mix it up.

Thanks to everyone for all the advice. I’m back lifting again and feeling great. I gave the elbow plenty of time to heal and take great care when working out not to re-injure it. I tried two elastic elbow bands but I got pissed off and took them off after my 2nd set. Icing it for me seems to work the best IMHO. I have lost so much strength in the last 2.5 months with out lifting but a lesson learned on injury and recovery.(Instead of stopping after injuring I pushed for two weeks and hurt my self more) I’m very much a still very new to this sport. I have only been weight training for 2 years but it seems to me the more I do it the more I learn about it and my body.

Golfer's Elbow

I have extreme "Golfer's Elbow" elbow tendenitis which feels like someone is holding a welding torch to the tip of each elbow... It's pretty excrutiating, but I still hit it hard.

Interesting enough I recently noticed that when I have eaten "sugar" it intensifies the problem a hundredfold. Anyone notice the same with your joint pain??

I use stretching, warm up thoroughly, and CT Cream (which is phenomenal).

I haven't tried wrapping for fear of creating a "crutch", haven't tried Gluc/Cond in awhile, and I honestly feel so busy as it is, that I don't have time to ice it. Guess I haven't exhausted every source...

My triceps are visually my weakest bodypart so it kills me when I can't train them hard and heavy!

My 2 Cents!

Well I have the same problem with my left elbow...I had it shot about 6 months ago and the pain went away...I went to pick up the T.V. from the repair shop and restrained it again....I went in The Ortho for a pre-op for my knee and had him shoot it again....It's been a week now and it still hurts...
especially doing skull crushers...I've increased the glu/cond...I'm hoping it goes away and soon too...

I also bought a cheap elbow brace from CVS and it helps alot when I'm benching on top on of the icy hot.....

What about aflutop?

I thought about that or Adequan, but looks like it is about $169. I have the pain in my forearm and on the elbow, but never remember injuring them. Going to the Doc today, so will see what he says... Cjay

Try these stretches they really helped me

**broken link removed**

Also Ice it after work out and before if you can. Just get one of these ice packs and rap it around with a Ace strap.

Stretches and Ice is Key, I'm 100% now.. My Doctor told me that every time I aggravated it gets inflammated and ICE brings that down enough to heal quicker.
