Glucophage/metformin. Instead of adding more insulin to your body as when you inject exogenious insulin, it makes your body
more sensitive to the insulin you naturally produce-i.e. improves insulin sensitivity. Its used as an option to insulin for mild cases
of Type II diabetes, and often (along with proper diet and exercise) can somewhat reverse the condition. Although it does have rare side effects, it may be viewed as a healthy alternative
to declining hormone levels as you age.
But dont expect the wallop, or big gains, that you get from insulin
injection.
