Well it finally happened. I tore my pec. Not completly but I tore it about a month ago. Benching 500 on smith. Was my fault because I lined up to close to the neck and on the 4th rep. pop pop pop!. Cosemetically I'm almost 100%, dont need surgery or anything, but have not worked out upper body in a month. lost only 4 lbs, I guess my body needed a break. Still do some legs, and calves, but I should be able to workout upper body in a week or so. I chalk this up to a wake up call. I'm 37 yrs old, and after working out hardcore for 15 yrs I guess I was lucky that I did not get hurt sooner. I plan to lower the weights a bit and increase the reps. It was my fault totally. Just be careful, I realize now that I am somewhat human:D . As Arnold would say, "I'll be back":p

Anyone can line up wrong, but high up, yes does put more stress on the pec insertion as you found out.
You will be OK, and back strong as ever, even if you dont try those crazy lifts (which I usually encourage!).
 
Glad it's looking OK.

I tend to bench low on my chest thesedays.
 
SORRY TO HERE ABOUT YOUR INJURY!

I AM MORE CAREFUL AFTER TEARING A BICEP THAN I WAS BEFORE THE INJURY. UNLIKE YOURS, MINE REQUIRED SURGURY. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR RECOVERY.

Yea u gotta be careful. I usually line up at collar bone or a little lower, never to the neck. Way too much stress. I also pause at the bottom for a few seconds for a couple reps on each warmup set so my muscle gets stretched out a little bit and gets good blood flow and nice n warm.

Iv had this happen about a year ago when i lined it up too high, i felt a little twitch and a sharp slight pain and i stopped my workout immediatly. You couldnt see anything but i could damn sure feel it for a week, so i took 2 weeks off upper body to be safe n let it heal. They say something like 90% of people who have recieved muscle injuries felt something wrong and ignored it, il never make that mistake, better safe than sorry.

Not trying to bust your bubble (mine was)... but i tore my pec (muscle tore apart about an inch above my nipple on the outside) about 4 years ago. It look completely normal for 6 months after i tore it. It was swollen for a while, then when the torn muscle started retracting it made a huge gap in my outter pec.
With my problem... it cant be fixed. You cant sew muscle back together so from the get go i was fucked.
I benched 560lb (free weight) on the monday before i tore it... then the next saturday i tried 585lbs without warming up enough (showing my ass to be honest - and i learned my lesson) and on the way down ... POP! It turned black as hell all the way down to my waist and to my elbow.
I went to the Dr the next day and they did an MRI and told me that trying to sew muscle back together was like trying to sew toilet paper together... it would just pull back apart.
The ONLY option i have is Dr Nader and an implant... $7000.00 i am not willing to pay for cosmetic reasons.
Hope yours turns out alright... but sooner or later the muscle will start to contract and you "might" have an indention.

Well after a year it has healed, and I do have a dent, but when I'm standing normal without shirt on, you cant tell. Only when I flex it, which is ok, I'm not going to compete anyway. It did one thing though, It did put Bodybuilding for me in its place, which is not 1st anymore, more like 3rd or 4th. Making money and buying houses and toys is. I still look the same, but if I miss workouts, and eat at chilis or something like that, I'm not going to sweat it, still better lookin than 95% of the public, but at 38 yrs old, and training to my limit every workout it was bound to happen. 14 yrs of straight up insane hardcore lifts and never injured. I was just lucky is guess. Its ok for me though, I also found out that BB has to be part of my life, being away from the gym for about 10 months (maybe worked out maybe 2 months total) this past year, (I'm still 5'8" 240 lbs and still look like a BB. ,Thanks MOM!) Made me realize that I will always be drawn to bodybuiling and everything that goes with that so. I can live happier knowing where my priorities are. One more thing, I will do 405 on smith squats for 50-60 reps before I'm 40! :p Thanks for asking though JJ, its all good.

Youre still one of the biggest guys around. And everyone has
their own list of what is important and to what degree.
So as long as you are happy and doing what you like,
its all good.
