Kaspersky or F-Secure?

I just installed Kaspersky trial and it looks really sharp and seems to perform well. It does slow the computer down so you'll have to shut it off when installing something like a service pack or other large installation such as Office.

F-secure gave me the blue screen of death on my notebook but it seems just fine with my PC's.

Anyone have any preferences or thought on either?

I was also using Avast! by Alwil for a while and it also seemed pretty good but after I installed Kaspersky, it found three variants of Virtumundo (or something like that) on my laptop so now I don't like Avast! anymore. Norton suck to the core and even though it detected the infection, it couldn't remove it. It just kept giving my "feel-good" messages like your computer has been disinfected.

T'care peeps,

OTH

Wow! Currently using Avast and Counterspy on Vista64.... crap....
I gave up on Norton long ago... I found it to be a real resource hog...

I'm interested in what you find out.

I went over to http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com and did a search on AntiVirus and they gave Kasperky a higher rating than F-Secure and said the on access scanner is very quick on Kaspersky and very slow on F-Secure. I like to be able to work or play(lol) while the scanning is going on in the background and would probably go for Kaspersky.

Bitdefender got their highest rating though.

I don't have any experience with any of them...but will see what's available for 64bit and try one out.

LMFAO, well, it's nice of you to say the whole trial thing... LOL... Even though I sent you the whole thing :D

I'm using cracked zone alarm pro inet security suite. It's a memory sucker.
Even more then norton.

Sweet! I'll download Kapersky and get rid of this junk Avast!

Thanks OTH and Kaiser!

I was using the trial! That is.... until I emailed you. Now I don't have the trial anymore. Hmm...

...punk!

Try AVG Free Edition

Has an Anti Virus engine similar to Kapersky, even better in some detection instances. Free, uses less resources then Kapersky does on your desktop, free and daily updates done.

Its the AntiVirus software AntiVirus Engineers recommend :D

Not true. Avast is not bad, yes if you do not have anything at all, but you cannot compare it to Kaspersky. I do like that it is Czech based however, which makes it by default better than any US A/V solution. For speed, Kaspersky has it's patented CRC checking technique that makes it extremely quick once the initial full/complete scan has finished. It's engine catches more than any other A/V. F-Secure has multiple engines and one of them is Kaspersky's AVP. AVP catches 90% of the viruses first in F-Secure. Yes, I have used Avast, and again, it's good for a free solution, but it does not hold up to F-Secure and AVP. I was a fan of F-Secure until 7.0 and later as these versions seem to rain a box of resources. They really need to fix this problem if I am to use it again.

Note, the initial CRC check does take a while and does hog resources while builing it's database, so reboot after it's finished and things will be fast again.

OTH, the version you have is the corporate version, not the consumer version that people download on the net as a trial. When you go to install it, do a custom install and de-select the last option which is the system protection that will constantly montor your registry. For poer users like us, it gets to be a hinderance asking about reg modifications every time, and we know what we are doing in the first place.

As always if BigA or my fellow staff here need it, please let me know.

I was going to recommend AVG free edition as well. It detects Viruses very well, updates everyday, is easy on resources, and best of all its free.

I have been using Kaspersky and I like it. User friendly, doesn't use up resources, and is rated better than Norton. I was using Norton for years then switched after a new pc build and I wouldn't buy Norton again.
