according to the stuff I have read and tried it again depends on your type and requency of training and your personal desire to stay in ketosis, personally speaking I am as flat as a fart when fully depleted and workouts are so hard to do, I have tried many methods, so for the best overall results I refeed every 5 days, but when wanting to train more intensively I refeed every 3 days but workout longer and harder. The best I have found for overall fat loss was PSMF 10 days in addition to weight training early days 1-4 then reduced intesity cardio for 45/60 mins later in the week as I often as I could handle it, I however know that this is some what catabolic to muscle my muscle tissue but is the most effective for losing lard.

I think once I'll be in ketosis state i'll wait for 10 days to refill and then do it every 5 days cause I tend to get flat really fast .....
 
When doing this type of diet, I do carb-deplete weight training using high reps and sets for about 5 days. I usually hit Large ketosis after 4 days, but if I push, can hit it in three.

So, like donker said, I'll usually re-feed after about 5 days. I'll load heavy for 2 days, cut bak to manitnenance eating on the 3rd day, then coast for a few days, and then run the cycle over again.

So: Deplete for 5 days, load for 2-3 (usually two), the Maintneance for 2-3, then repeat. Training is different for different times in the cycle.

its very individualistic on how soon you enter ketosis. If youve done keto diets in the past and/or been eating a lower carb diet you can enter it quicker. Or with the use of other compounds/supplements. Usually its 7-14 days.

I've never heard of anyone taking 7 days - let alone two weeks - to enter ketosis. The average is 3 - 5 days.

Mike, if you're going solely off of the ketostix alone, it's too variable. They aren't always 100% accurate. You'll see yourself in ketosis one day, follow your diet strict for a week, and the stix will tell you you're no longer in ketosis as if someone force fed you a slice of bread when you weren't looking. 3-5 days really is the average.
 
i should have said a deeper stage of ketosis..... but yeah 3-5 days you generally start running on ketones...
 
BrooklynBB is right. I have extensive knowledge of this type of diet. Been using since the mid 90's. If you actually adhere to 0 carbs, and do any type of workouts (weight or cardio) you will get into Ketosis in about 3 days.

You can actually speed the process by using glucose disposal agents, of which there are quite a few. On the extreme side, one can get into Ketosis in less than 24 hrs! I've done this many, many times.
 
By the way...

Here's the proper way to use the Ketostix:

Ketostix only measure the amount of Ketones being excreted in your urin.
Now, when you go on a Ketogenic "DIET" the idea is to burn up the Ketones being made, as energy. When this happens there is nothing left for excretion in the urin. So your trusty Ketostix will tell you that your not in Ketosis, even though you are very much so.

On the flip side.....if your consistently seeing deep Ketosis (dark purple) measurements from the stix, then your EATING TOO DAMN MUCH!! Leave that for the Atkins followers, who eat bacon, cheese, and sausage all day! LOL
Its not effective for Bodybuilders!

If your doing the diet right, the stix should only turn only a little purple, a short while after you eat.

My experience is that 10 days is too long, and yuo risk burning muscle, especially the first time or two around if yuo have been eating lots of carbs and haven't taught yuor body to burn fat well.

Use the Ketostix first thing in the morning (immediately upon rising!) to check ketosis (readings during the day are unreliable becuase yuo're using ketones for fuel, so will apear to drop out of ketosis). Once yuo're in Large ketosis, don't go more than 1-2 days in Large. Re-feed, starting with complex carbs the first day or so, then switch to sugars to raise insulin and load that last bit. Be careful with the sugars and don't go hog wild.

Yuo'll probably appear to "smooth out," but this is just water spilling into the interstitial space (between the skin and muscle), and will get eliminated over the next day or so.

Now, all carbed up, it's time to lift HEAVY - go for triples on big, compound movements like squats, deads, and benches.

really curious about ketosis , never did it myself and it seems to work like hell

today was day 3 on no carbs, felt pretty tired BUT energy level and strength at trainnig were over the roof , will check tommorow with ketostix ...
 
oh I forgot , to start with I based myself on 12cals/ lbs

I have a fast metabolism and do cardio so it sounds good to start

what do u guys base on as a caloric intake on ketosis diet ?

Ive been using a high protein, high fat, close to zero diet for over six months now. I used to do a large carb refeed once a week then use slin to push myself back into keto. Im now trying a small carb refeed once every fourth day and so far Im finding it much better.

I always eat plently of greens everyday for fibre, minerals, vitimins and antioxidants etc.

The only thing I ever crave is fruit. I was thinking of drinking V8 Vege and Fruit Juice pre and post workout as my only daily carbs apart from fibrous greens. Does this make sense? Just enough to be equilvalent to 50 carbs pre and 50 carbs post workout.

yes ok, I know that, I was more refering to a shift for calories intake

what is ur input for a ketosis diet ? I usually start my diet around 12 calories / lbs of bodyweight and adjust from here, should it be different for ketosis diet ?
 
Also whats the procedure for carbing up pre contest on a ketosis diet, I think Magnum dosnt even carb his clients up and Palumbo carbs people up on thursday afternoon, 2 days before. I have been without carbs for so long Im really worried about spilling over, trying so hard to get rid of this water weight the last thing I want to do is ruin it the last 2 days by carb loading but I do need to carb load to fill out a bit more....... What a scientific sport:rolleyes:
