This is something I am looking into studying after I stop bodybuilding
Hey Bapper have you ever heard oF Punjat Silat? (sp?) It is close hand to hand combat fighting out of Indonesia......good stuff too...
I thought you wanted to be a kickass DJ
I just got back today from my second trip to the Muay Thai camps out in Thailand. Met one of the guys who smashed the kung fu lot who came over from China to compete against the Muay Thai fighters back in the 80's.
It's truly awe inspiring watching the Thais fight. I've seen the gentlest and softest looking Thai lads take full power round house kicks to the chin and not even flinch or show any signs of pain. Remember this... in a fight no matter how good you are you WILL get hit.
As my old kung fu master said to me and the rest of the class once ' I can stand here and teach you all the kung fu in the world but unless you truly have the spirit and the heart to fight, then it will all be useless'. People need to realize that there are no tricks or secrets to fighting, it is 100% about hard work and having heart.
While some may feel that some moves of other martial arts are superior to Muay Thai, one must realize that martial arts that may be practised as a ring sport fall into a class of their own. You get used to being under (albeit controlled) pressure, the feeling of taking a shot (so that when it happens for real you do not freeze up in shock) and real interaction with an opponent to find out what truly does work when it comes to doing it for real.
And always remember the best self- defense is to walk away from a fight... even if you think a particular situation is well within your capability you never know how a street fight will evolve.
Stay safe guys.
Anybody here practice Krav Maga?

Anybody here practice Krav Maga?
its not something you want to use on the streets unless youre in real trouble...real krav maga is very brutal and will change your life if you use it (you will probably kill somebody and have the law go after you)...we had an instructor for 3 years...did all sorts of drills that would end any fight in very serious ways...crazy military stuff using even knives/weapons and objects to suprise-stab/cut opponents or gouge their eyes out...i could never get over how far they went to develop this "martial art" for example a knife attack would be something like:
(the opponent is in light summer clothing and the knife is a hidden short blade- keep in mind that its YOUR KNIFE & the opponent is unarmed / keep in mind krav maga was developed for soldiers not civilians)
when in clinch (just for example) you surprise your opponent with a knife stab in his inner lower thigh, hold the back of his neck with your free hand to prevent him from moving back and plow his skin, with your knife over his crotch area, following up over his abdomen and chest, and going up to his neck where you change directions and cut horizontally over his throat...you basically cut a big "7" from his crotch up to his neck and over it...one big cut over several arteries...
the non armed attacks are just as brutal like: quick left jab/ followed by massive right elbow/ followed by a hammerfist to the neck / followed by multiple elbows or knees and all of this is 3-4 seconds...
its good for self defense but may well land you in jail...years after krav maga i was afraid of getting in to a fight on the streets and ran away from many confrontations simply because i forgot to fight the "regular way" ...i suggest thai boxing or MMA for self defence because REAL krav maga is something else...alex
That is why I love Aikido. It can be as "soft" or as "hard" as you want to make it. Very fast moving and flowing, yet you can still decide to avoid seriously hurting your attacker.
Now after a certain level, we also start training in Daito Ryu which most belief to be the forerunner of Ueshiba's Aikdo. And it has some very brutal techniques.
krav maga= eye gouging and groin shots basically, do you really have to train hard to learn how to gouge someones eyes out or destroy their groin? Add in some strategic biting and there you go. Real nice stuff created by some even nicer people.
