The 'safe' amount of carbs depends on the timing of the meals, and your individual metabolism of Lantus (whose release is not completely uniform, it does have peaks). The only real safe way to do it is to do a finger prick test of blood glucose, say, every hour, and to eat an amount of carbs to keep it in a good range at all times. Once you have done that a couple days, you can check how many carbs you have eaten and at what time, that will be your safe dose.Okay so once I get my shit together i wanna jump on this.
I know it's mentioned not to go crazy on carbs but can anyone give me a safe amount of carbs I should at least have with 50iu lantus? Obviously I'm not starting at that dosage.
If this sounds too complicated, don't bother with high dose Lantus, and stick to fast-acting slin.
