Testosterone along with other steroids dont need a receptor on the outside of a cell to get inside of a cell. Because our cells have a phospolipid bi layer fats such as steriods pass easily through the cell membrane. Unlike insulin and other hormones that need a receptor on the outside of a cell to enter the cell. Now once in the cell the hormone combines with a specific protein receptor, that binds with the nucleus and inhibits or activates the cell to do a particular function such as production of new cell that is growth.
