Ok, I do not know if this is a problem for some people but for me when going low carb (high fat) while cutting down, I lack energy get up and go etc. I have just bought some organic coconut oil to add to my meals along with the UDO's oil I am using to try and add a little more energy to my life? I have read all the theory on this and how wonderful MCT are, but has anyone got any further experience with these? and what they may do for a diet very low in carbs while trying to shredd of BF.

hmmm... i have heard that if you can keep your fat levels of good EFA's up in the 60000 milligram per day range, you can stay in ketosis better. giving your body the fat to burn as energy instead of protein, being muscle or supplementation. you must be on restricted carbs BIG TIME. like less than 40g per day.

some others may know more, but you need even amounts of omega 6 & 3 fats in your diet.

yes well that suits what i am looking into, i have both the omega 3 and 6 from the UDO's and the MCT from the coconut oil and the UDO's, high protein very low carb, less that 40 for sure. In the past when I have dieted like this i suffer lethagy and poor mood, so i am going to try the coconut oil to see if the mct's will help aid in energy and mood. I am not sure how, when you supply the body with MCT's ie 10grms per meal, how much bodyfat is being burned also, when using mcts for energy does the body use up more bodyfat or not? It is still a mystery to me and I have extensively studied fats ;-) We will see I will give it a good go, but any other input is appreciated.

well, if i am correct, it takes the body 72 hours for the ketones to leave the body, and then trick your brain into burning fat intead of carbs for an energy source. once you can keep yourself in ketosis you should be burning fat only as energy, and also protein if you are not careful, and that can be hard earned muscle too. you can lose it just as fast. so, keep your protein up. i would start with the MCT's at like 5 g per meal, those damn things made me shit my brains out til i figured i was needed to get them in with food. i mixed mine up in shakes. seemed to do the trick. also, use some EVOO. it has some good capabilities and is fairly cheap too.

dont forget to throw in a cheat meal once a week to keep the body tricked.

i find as long as you keep your fats high enough, energy isn't an issue.
I often found myself taking a tsp of flax oil before a workout to get the energy to go on - which worked.

please provide proof of this.
i've never ever heard this.
and why are you 'tricking your brain'?

i wish i could trick my brain into fat burning.
that would be sweeeet.

im sorry aqua, i dont have medical journal access. here is a little stuff from the net i found..

"Briefly, the body naturally turns to fat for fuel when carbohydrate isn't available. When a lot of fat is burned, some of the fat fragments - ketones - get excreted to preserve the body's acid-base balance (because ketones are acid), and this called "ketosis." The excreted ketones have about 5 calories per gram, and since you can excrete quite a lot of ketones"

so, as the ketones leave your body, you are then going to make sure to have your fat levels higher, to burn the essential fats instead of burning muscle. read on

"Without some carbohydrates to maintain blood sugar levels and fuel the system, ketone bodies - fatty substances generated from the breakdown of stored fats or triglycerides - are soon formed in the blood. Ketone bodies mask your appetite even though your brain demands glucose. The result is ketosis: headaches, light-headedness, and mental fatigue. Eventually, [on a low fat diet] your body will begin to convert protein from your muscles into blood sugar. You lose weight, but it is from muscle mass, not from fat."

so, by keeping your protein high, and carbs lower than 40g per day, you are entering into KETOSIS. so, to avoid muscle loss, you need to eat at least 2 g protein per lb of Bodyweight from shakes and meats and legumes and such as well as adequate fats to burn for energy. this is just what i have learned to understand about it.

I think i'm going to trick my brain into growing my boobs bigger.

How much fat are you taking in?
and how 'low' is lowcarb to you?
What are you basing your ratios on?

I can tell you that for a CKD, the ratios are based by calculating your protein requirements .... 0.9 grams of protein for every pound of LBM. This number multiplied by four will be your calories from protein. Subtract this from your target calories (10% under maintenance or 12* bodyweight) and the remainder is calories from fat ( divide this by nine to get fat grams).

BooYaa!

well, that is just what has worked for me aqua. i dont know the SCIENTIFIC methods or anything, i just know what has gotten me into top shape when i needed it. and for some people they may need less protein, some more, but i am a hardgainer by genetics, so i need more to spare my muscle mass that i have.
