Meal/nutrient timing, how important is it?

How much of a rule do you find nutrient/meal timing really plays in body composition?

In this day of “science based” things, I feel like this has mostly fell out of practice with most just saying “it all comes down to daily macros”.

To the more advanced guys, how much of a role did you find nutrient timing played in developing your physique, staying lean while adding tissue etc?
 
I found how much i ate over a weeks time was more important then any 1 day. Or even how much i ate every 2-3 hours. The body is not putting out the exact same enzymes for digestion every 2 hours like it is an a factory conveyor belt. The regular schedule of eating just makes it easier for a person to stay honest with themselves as i see it.
