ok this might seem like a stupid question, but how do some of you guys measure you r rice out? the package is soooo screwed up how it explains it. do you use a measuring cup? weight in oz or grams? every rice bag i pick up give just the dry weight before cooking for 1 serving, and i justr dont make 1 servig of rice. so if some one has an easy transltion of how many ounces , or grams of rice equals this many grams of carbs, please let me know.

thanks DOK

Being of Asian descent, I do as the Asians do - use a rice cooker :)

The cooker comes with a measuring cup, which I believe is actually 1 cup. There are lines in the pot that show how much water to use - 1c, 2c, 3, etc. This is for white rice.

If you cook brown rice in a rice cooker, it must cook LONGER than white rice. If you add the same amount of water for brown rice as for white rice, it will not cook - be hard. You fool the cooker into cooking longer by adding about 1/3 MORE water for brown rice over white rice.

1/2 cup dry equals approx. 1 cup prepared.

1 cup of white rice prepared equals approx. 43 grams of carbs.

1 cup of brown rice prepared equals approx. 33 grams of carbs.

the dry weight for 1/2 cup of white rice is 54 grams compared to 43 grams for brown rice thus the difference in carbs.

hope this helps.

Go here to get macro nutrient values: **broken link removed**

Type in "rice" for <enter keywords:>, leave "All" for <Select a food group:>.

I'd select
Cereal Grains and Pasta
Rice, white, short grain, cooked (link: **broken link removed** )

This gives you values for "cooked" amounts - 1 cup for this product. When a measured amount is provided (as in this case) rather than weight (which is also next to amount in parans), the weight is secondary - how much water the cooked product retained, etc.
