Measuring Your Genetic Limit

I found this to be a neat article:

http://www.weightrainer.net/potential.html

How far are you guys from or above your natural genetic potential? The article uses 10% bf as an example, but if you do the calculations, you can choose any bf% and find some max measurements.

Wow!

That was very interesting. It is strange how his examples matched the equation almost to a t. There will always be genetic freaks that this equation won't work for. You know like me. JK. :D

Maybe, but then you have to consider the group that was used in the article which are very much genetically gifted already. So Im not sure how much more genetics can overcome this equation when it comes to maintaining a certain amount of LBM drug free.

I thought this was pretty accurate until half the teens at BB.com blow it out of the water despite being "natural".

I dont know man, it's saying my maximum lean body mass is 186 lbs. Does that mean that's how much muscle I can have or how much my whole body will weighed once maxed out? I'm 19 years old, 5'8" and am 185 lbs with roughly 12-13% bf I'd say (never had it tested but I have a four pack most days). What gives?

if you train heavy, and eat like a horse, youll be suprised how much lean mass you can gain naturally. look at sumo wrestlers. theyre big and fat but they carry the most muscle per inch of height than any other athlete. ive seen a ton of powerlifters diet down and win bodybuilding shows. they eat eat eat then eat some more and train HEAVY. i think human genetic limits are alot higher than most people think or are willing to commit to reaching. how many paople do you really think did EVERYTHING possible to reach theyre full potential naturally?

I made this Google spreadsheet based on the article. Use File/copy spreadsheet or File/Export to Excel to fill in your own values.

For me, at 5'9, the most I could be naturally at 10% is about 193lbs. Thats pretty fucking big and very respectable if we put things in perspective.

If we compare ourselves to guys who use aas, then of course its going to look small if the guy is 5'9 and 240lbs at 10%.

Additionally, because most users of aas are actually white collar males in their 30's, our perceptions get skewed because we see 'normal' people continuing to improve and feel like we can/should do the same, esp because some of us have more training and diet experience than they do. But this is proof that aas work.

The other thing is that people are horrible with bf% measurement. Ive seen pics of people who claim to be 10-12% and are really somewhere around 15% or more.

Retriever, thanks for the awesome spreadsheet!

cannot be bothered working that out, is not a calculator that can do it for me?

cheers for the link bro, i pretty impressed with results and think for me the calculation can/was/is somewhat right.

yea - it's not really clear but i think it means that your weight at the end of the equation is how much you will weigh total... not that the # will be just how much the muscle on your body would weigh (ie- not counting your organs/bones/water weight/etc)

Sorry I didnt answer your question. If the max LBM you can have is 186lbs (muscle, bones, etc.) then your max weight will be whatever you tack on as body fat.

So if you want to be 10% bf at your genetic max, youd weigh 186+18.6=204.6lbs

Oh, preciate that. Damn I'd look straight monsterish at that weight with 10% bf. It might take me a bit bc I'm going all natty but I'll be there...

Claims my max bodyweight is supposed to be 208 lbs at 6 foot tall and 8-10%bf. Right now im in that bf range and weigh 230 lbs. Hard to believe I shouldnt weight more than 208.

I'm 19, 5'8" 185 lbs with around 13% bf
Alright, using the calculater these are my genetic maxes:
Musclular Body Weight 214 lbs
Chest: 49.9 in.
Forearms: 13.7
Thighs: 27.5
Biceps: 17.1
Neck: 16.7
Calves: 18.5

As of now my stats are:
Chest: 45.5
Forearms: 13.25
Thighs: 25
Biceps: 16 5/8
Neck: 17.75
Calves: 16.5

I measured these a couple times so I'm pretty sure they're close. A couple things though, I measured my thighs at almost the biggest point (about where your dick hangs). I didn't know how to measure them but I didn't think I should get up into the joint at the groin or down near the knee. Also, this is wierd, my neck is over an inch bigger than it's genetic limit!? Wtf.
Oh and these were flexed, should they be unflexed?

That's what mine said. I'm 5'9 too. Gave me a number of 190 lbs with my measurements. If I tack on the 10% BF that I looked at, that would make me 210lbs max at 10% BF naturally. Well I'm probably about 10% now (or maybe not) and almost always weigh 210 give or take a few.

Kind of bums me out. I thought I had reached my genetic max years ago when I was 30ish. That was the whole reason I decided to give AAS a shot. Here I am, half a decade later, at less than my natural max.:(

Of course, I wasn't really bodybuilding though either but power shouldn't be much different eh?

To hell with that calculator! :D
